Alpen Strasse (1 Viewer)

I've just done most of the Alpen Strasse in Germany. I can't say I would recommend it. Went East to West. So many motorhome restrictions. Many places we would like to stop but couldn't because all the car parks had no motorhome signs. Especially Tegernsee. Nearly all laybys even in the middle of nowhere have parking meters and are only open between 8am to 6pm.
A highlight was Bad Tolz. Cutting our losses and heading North on the Romantic Strasse from Fussen in a couple of days time.
Has anyone else found this?

I've done some of the Alpen Strasse and some of the Romantic Strasse and found plenty of stellplatz in all of the towns we visited.
Were you looking to wild camp in remote places ?
Did you look at the apps, SfS and P4N ?

Not wild camping. Looked for stellplatz and found them but wasn't easy. Lots of restrictions elsewhere. When did you go?
Used p4n and s4s.
Also what time of year?

Not had any difficulty in May but had to be on most platz by about 3pm after that it was pot luck if any spaces left

Similar at similar time of year and same year at a guess. No issues

Maybe it's changed since 2018. Most difficulty I've ever had. Not just for overnight but for parking in the daytime too.

Yes Fussen is a very busy place and you have to be very lucky to get a decent parking space.

Lovely part of Germany with some cracking villages, seems we end up there most trips away
Dinkelsbuhl, rothenburg and Fussen are a must stop over.

The lad and me are doing this road second half of May. Expect as we will be on motorbikes though it should be easier to get parked and find a hotel for the night in one of the towns en route

Loads of bikers on the Alpen strasse. Looked great fun.

We did it on the Harley’s 10 yrs ago, loved it especially staying at pension Gregory’s in Schönau am Königsee (near Berchtesgaden) Bare bones pension, just a bed and a wardrobe, fantastic host, first communal trust fridge full of drinks operating with honesty box I’d ever seen, and the best 4hr thunderstorm rattling around the mountains on 3 sides, something I’ll never forget, it was epic

Quite simple, 3.00pm and there wasn’t one space between them!
Coastal Cruiser. was there that day (he left, I just missed his space) he will say the same, it was rammed!! I ended at the Stellplatz in Rottenbuch

Yes waited as long as I could but alas the old Carthargo was not fast enough seems to be very busy and about the only place you would struggle to get a pitch I think.

Think there is just the 2 the one furthest down near the little roundabout also has a small restaurant sort of place, ok if you like schnitzel

Quick update. Have done most of the Romantic Strasse now. Fantastic. Beautiful towns. I would say the best are Nordlingen, Dinkelsbuhl and Rothenburg on the Tauber. No problem with overnight stops. Provided for and well signposted. Unlike the alpenstrasse. Completely recommend it. Only other comment is a lot of places are closed until April.
