Been around the block a few times😉
Had a surprise visitor here at Fuerteventura trying to share Charlie's dinner on the patio (no chance)

The chances of a bit of turkey or sausage not being scoffed in a nanosecond is zero.
As its Christmas we put some Meaty Meals in a bowl in the garden for Hedgy

I got a lovely surprise today when I was sent this pic from one of my oldest pals, Dave Crampton. That's him in the colourfull leathers.

It was taken in Spring 1982 at Cadwell, coz I bought an LC in July. I chucked that 400 at the straw bales at Gooseneck in my first ever race at Cadwell and only had it 3 months.

Other lad is Andy Simmons (RIP).

Us 3 had so much fun in our first 3 years racing <Broken link removed>

Is the bridge up to full 70mph now? I live near Glasgow and I'm waiting until it is as Isabel doesn't like heights , so 50mph would take too long:):). Even the Kincardine bridge gets to her:D.
Ideal weather for your trip by the photographs. Next time walk over it and burn off Christmas Day's food:xgrin:.

@kelpie it was 60 mph today.
You can't walk over the new bridge, although they has a couple of events just before it opened.

A bit of an experiment this.

A cheapo Soligor 350mm SLR/Cine lens (7x magnification) with a cheapo Prinzflex 3x adapter ring (=21x magnification) on a half frame (not cheapo) Canon DSLR body (= 1.6 x 21 = 35x magnification).

A rock solid tripod.

ISO 1000, 1/60 sec.

Shot in RAW format so plenty of brightness and contrast tweaking possible, and the end result is:

Broken Link Removed

I'm waiting for a cable release to arrive in the post so I can minimise camera shake, and shooting at night time will provide greater contrast, plus converting to greyscale may help. Plenty of room for improvement.

Watch this space (if you'll pardon the pun) :)

Does your camera not have a delay setting? I use this feature for taking shots like that. They are meant for "selfies" but are a good way to avoid camera shake.

A day or two late but as this is the season of Good Will I will hopefully be indulged.

On a Christmas morning walk in Sussex I came across this blue plaque in the village of Aldbourne.

DSC_0088.JPG

It is the birthplace of James Starley (1831 - 1881).

Who? I hear you ask. I'd never heard of him either but the sign claims he was the "father of the bicycle industry". It is worth Googling his name but his Wiki entry is shown below. He was a gifted inventor and started making penny farthing bicycles in Coventry and also odder bikes which to cut to the quick led him to invent the differential - which is to be found in virtually every motor vehicle today.

One of his sons carried on the family tradition, creating the first recognisably modern bike with a diamond frame and chain drive and then went on the create the Rover motor company. Clever folk. :)

Quite likely, but I never use it so I didn't consider that option. Good thinking Batman. The main issue with pics like that is which part of the moon to spot meter for light. It should have been the top right or bottom right of the disc, not the middle.

The remote gizmo I've ordered allows all sorts of time exposure and interval exposure options so it should be worth experimenting with.

Just back from St Mary's Manchester.
My daughter in law has just given us our 4th and probably last grandchild. A beautiful girl, Ana Marie.
Granny got the first cuddles, as usual.

View from the Old Stirling Bridge. Funny how your home town looks so lovely just before you are about to leave.

IMG_20171227_091443.jpg

The present Old Stirling Bridge was built in the 1400s or 1500s, replacing a succession of timber bridges. Undoubtedly the best-known of these was one that stood nearby in the 1290s, when Sir William Wallace and Sir Andrew Moray defeated Edward I’s forces at the Battle of Stirling Bridge in 1297.

The bridge also played a part in the Jacobite Rising of 1745, when an arch was removed to forestall Bonnie Prince Charlie’s forces as they marched south. The bridge today remains one of the best medieval masonry arch bridges in Scotland.

Ciao
