We were hoping to have made it across the Channel this summer, but for one reason or another that didn't happen, now it's going to be 4-6 wks in Oct/Nov....

We've not been across so late in the year before, so we'd be grateful for any recommendations.
We love France but we're guessing we'll need to head south to Southern Spain or Portugal for the better weather.

We like Aires or sites, and like exploring villages, towns and cities. We love Andalusia but always go back there, so we'd like to explore different regions if possible.

Any suggestions for some Oct/Nov touring would be very welcome! ☀️

With such an open invitation of location my advice would be to look at www.ventusky.com and have a look at the weather a fortnight in advance and then head to that area and hope the fortnight after was as good.

The further South the better the chances of warmer weather versus how far South you want to travel.

Enjoy

~I agree that is what we normally do. We have a rough plan, but it gets ditched if ventusky suggests good weather somewhere else.

Ok, thanks both! We've been fans of Ventusky since seeing reviews of it on here. We'll use that to guide our trip - hopefully there will be some orange and yellow bits to aim for! ☀️🤞

19 month year 18000 miles UK, Ireland, France, Spain, Germany, Italy. Campsites and off Grid.
We did Oct/Nov in 2021 (we generally do Sept/Oct). France weather can be a bit iffy in October so we crossed there fairly quickly and got into Spain. 2 Months in Spain is a long time so it depends what you like to do or whether you want to stop in one place for a while.

We did mostly off grid/Aires with a couple of longer stops at campsites for 5 days at the most.

We did a mixture of cities, inland and coast.

Huesca, Zaragoza, Morella, Peniscola (stayed there at the coast for 5 days), Denia, Pinoso, (Desert Campsite) Fortuna (Thermal Baths), Chinchilla de Monte-Aragon, Aranjuez, Madrid, Caceres, Sevilles, Cadiz, Concil de La Frontera (Off grid with the surfers on the cliff top) alcala de los Gazules, Playa de torreguadiaro, Estepona, Marbella, Benejarafe, Almeria (stayed there a while) Murcia, Ayora, Teruel, Huesca again and then home thru France via Lourdes, Pau, Samur, Evreux.

Hi VXman ! Thanks very much for your reply and details of the route for your Oct/Nov '21 trip - that looks really excellent, and is very encouraging. We were wondering if it was worth heading over this late in the year, but all the replies to this thread have given us confidence to give it a try! Thanks again! ☀️

Not really - other than my polarsteps record which has the locations I visited, a few photos of each and the route. If you have a polarsteps account you can view it here...

We were over this time last year headed Annecy, Ardeche, weather was very pleasant in the 20s. Because of the fuel refinery strikes in France moved over to Italy up through Switzerland on the way back.
We are heading over this weekend as we havnt had the chance this year so far, back towards Ardeche weather permitting as we had to cut it short last year got 6 weeks for the trip.
If all else fails (weather) will look at alternatives.
Enjoy.

I’m doing the same trip mostly. We were going to take our time motoring to Spain by lingering down the west coast of France but the weather isn’t great and the draw of Spanish sun is strong. We stayed ar lloret de mar and peniscola a few years back pre covid.

we’ve decided just head for Spain asap, probably to Alicante area, crossing at Irun. Any recommendations for a nice site near Alicante, near beach and bars, have a dog with us. Doesn’t need to be Alicante as we have no strong desire for there but we are going to spend best part of 2 months getting some sun.

all suggestions welcome but my wife likes creature comforts, wild sites wouldn’t get me brownie points, thanks

Hi dosser thank you for your reply and details of your trip this time last year! Annecy and the Ardeche region sounds great, and it would be excellent if the weather held out there so we could somehow include Annecy in our trip, as it's somewhere we really enjoy visiting. Thanks again, and I hope you have a great trip across the Channel this weekend!

If temperature is important, my opinion is Valencia is the point where the warm cool divide takes place during the late autumn months.
Hi rosalan - thanks for your advice, that's really good to know the "rule of thumb" for the temps! Valencia is a lovely place, and if we end up heading over to the east coast of Spain, it's somewhere we'd love to return to. ☀️
