As far as I'm aware the iPad doesn't come with a phone option although looking online there are apps you can use apparently. I don't think a phone sim will work in the iPad. I did ask befor I bought my last sim so assuming that hasn't changed.
An app wouldn't cut it as that works via data, it would have to be able to take and use a phone sim ... our cheapo Chinese one does! :D

Is it a 4g compatable sim?
Three give 4G for free with their sims where its receivable, so long as you have a device that can utilise 4G then it can be used, otherwise it would just revert to 3G.

How about Tethering?. I do just that. I use the Mobile (Smart) phone as a Router. And link the Laptop to it. and SWMBO`s I-Pad.

You can tether to your phone if you have unlimited data but it isn't unlimited for the 'tethered' equipment:

Can I use unlimited data for tethering?
Yes, if you have unlimited data you’ll be able to use some of it towards a Personal Hotspot (aka tethering) but there will be a cap in place. To check your Personal Hotspot allowance head into your My3 account and select Allowance. Typically the monthly cap is 2GB for Pay Monthly customers and 4GB for SIM Only customers.

http://www.3g.co.uk/unlimited-data-plans.html

If instead you had a data only sim you could ONLY tether to it if it was an unlimited data one on a 'term' contract (eg 12/24 months) and you would be restricted to 12gb of data 'tethering' per month. PAYG data sims, even if they are unlimited, do NOT allow tethering at all.

feel at home. ... You can't use your phone as a personal hotspot (tethering) while you're abroad.

This is a cracking deal from ID mobile that uses the 3 network. £10 per month on a 30 day contract gets you 4gb data plus text and minutes.

Does the 12Gb/12month sim card from Three, have to be activated in the UK, before qualifying for the "Three At Home" usage in listed countries, or can it be activated in a listed country?

I'd be using it in a 4G Hauwei MiFi E5776

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Jock, I've taken two of the 3 sims over to France unopened and they worked without prior registration/installation.

Sounds good Phil, I was going to buy one and get it set up, then take another incase we run out, then based on Jocks comment thought that would be a waste of time

you have done just that (y) and it works :)

This is a phone sim, don't think it will work in a tablet.

You can't use a phone sim in a tablet (unless it's a phablet) and likewise can't use a data sim in a phone.

Mel, you were my inspiration on the purchase of the Hauwei E5776 4G MiFi, which I was very grateful for. ;)

I'm pleased you're getting on well with the mifi .... unfortunately ours decided it didn't like sims anymore ... of course it was just out of ruddy warranty! :cautious:

Can Anyone tell me Why it is that, "Corporate Entities", Just HAVE to make everything so complicated?. OR "Is it Me"???

One fee, Use it everywhere,? what's the issue?. It`s not that the technology is at fault, It`s got to be the (Greedy??) People?

p.s. or more likely the "mangers" creating their empires!. More people, more "important"

"By George, the boy's got it!" .... exactly what we do ... it also means you're not having to take your expensive iPad/tablet/laptop etc away too if you don't want to. We have 7" tablets so they are an ideal size to mount on the dash to use as a sat nav too.
