Hi all you leccy people. I bought a brand new 1kw generator off eBay, says digital invertor generator 1kw but max output 1.2kw. When I tried the 700 w microwave on it,,the genny just overloads and cuts the engine off, also same with the m/h water heater, I'm not using both at the same time! Is 1kw not enough to power the microwave, how do I test the genuine output of the genny.
Thanks for any info

i believe a 700w microwave when switched on will double that to around 1.4kw to much for your genny maybe the heater is the same

When I need to select the size of my inverter I asked Technical@baumatic.co.uk for the requirements of the microwave fitted to our MoHo, here's the reply I received.

Microwave oven technical data

Electrical connection rating (W) 1250
Maximum microwave power (W) 800
Power supply voltage (V) 230
Frequency (Hz) 50
Fuse rating (AMPS) 8
Lead-in cable length (mm) 1000
The microwave is designed to operate off a standard 230v,50 hz supply.
The 8amp fuse rating is an internal fuse on the mains filter pcb.
The fuse in the plug should be 13amp.

I fitted a 1500W pure sine inverter, it operates the microwave successfully.

The 2kw inverter I have fitted works the microwave ok.
I've read somewhere that the initial start up of the m/wave may be a lot higher. Looks like I'm stuck with the genny which has no use other than charging the batteries... I knew I should've gone for the solars, could've bought two 100w for the price of the genny,,,,,,ah well, you live & learn.
