Is a 12 v socket easy to rig up? is it a case of buying a cigarette socket with a positive and negative wired to leisure battery.. Just guessing? Or is anyone around Glasgow that can guide me on MUST HAVES?

Basically, yes. The main things to ensure are that proper (car, not domestic) cable is used (17 amp rated is what I've used in the past), you have an in line 10 amp fuse, you lead the cable through a route where it won't get tramped on in normal use and you mount the socket in such a manner that the connections will remain safe.

I fitted a couple easy enough to do but I only fit 3 amp fuses as we only use them for phones and such

Good call ... cigarette lighter sockets are electrically and mechanically RUBBISH!

How many times have you had to wiggle the phone charger to get a good connection! When car manufacturers say 10A/120W in the handbook, what they mean is that the wiring is good for that not the socket!!

beware of the multi outlet adaptors.

I have melted two at less than the faglighter sockets stated 10amp max load.

On looking at the twin outlet adaptor it states 5amp max combined load.....not something you expect when it's designed to plug into a 10amp/15amp supply
