just been pointed to this item by supermike over on sister site RVOC.

    http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=225095

delivered this morning and looks the dogs do-da's.

very similar (if not the same one) to the ring RAC700 unit which has very good reviews.

only a couple in each branch so be quick for a bargain.

I had hell finding place to pump my RV tyre up as no where had pumps for HGV on forecourt and burnt out endless cheapies.

My pump cost £32 so this is a great priced pump.

    Good link Papa J:Wink:

I bought one of these some months back. The drive to the piston sheared after using it twice, which is worse than the £5 ones. I suspect its robust appearance may be an illusion.

I have now invested a bit more in a Ring one which so far has been OK.

Hope you find them more satisfactory than I did.

just used it on the volvo's tyres...havent done them for ages

    fronts 36psi...was 25psi

    rears 32psi...was 22psi

    around 2 mins per tyre.

might get a better mpg now. :thumb:

not bad for a small compressor.

too dark to do the RV and i need a 12v extension lead first.
fronts are near enough but the rears are 7mtrs away from the fag socket

I gave up on 12v compressors.. yes, I know they are handy and don't need any effort but a twin barrel foot pump is more dependable ..

and it keeps Jan fit :thumb:

Like you Jim, i have an aversion to them too and have a small mains fired compressor (Aldi special)in the garage but its fixed and a pain running hoses out to the RV.

figured this will do for top-up's :thumb:

I was fortunate that the RV had an air compressor and tank, so bought an airline and gauge and used a spare take off point on the tank. ..

Only ever used it in anger once. I snapped a valve stem, had to remove the tyre and fit a new one .. this was on an aire miles from any garage .. A foot pump or a 12 v compressor would have been useless to reseal the tyre to the rim..

I was surprised how easy it was to remove a 22" tyre .. I was expecting a fight but it was no match for a 2lb lump hammer ..

Don't worry Gromet, mines still going strong 9 months down the line and I use it at least once a week. Its great for blowing up the air assist suspension as well as tyres.

try parking your volve next to the RV and run your pump from that
no need for 7mtr extension leads :Eeek::thumb:

In a moment of madness i made up an extension lead but forgot one important factor..... VOLTAGE DROP

the compressor pumped about as fast as i could pump a footpump  bop......bop.....bop.....bop.....bop

i now use a small 17ah wheelchair battery and the compressor works fine for topping up pressure in both the tyres and air assist suspension.
