A few months ago I had the fifth gear replaced on my ducato. Ever since there has been a weep/leak on to what I reckon is a gearbox mount as shown in the photo below. The gearbox drain, not shown is to the left of the picture and that is dry. I can't go back to the garage as we fell out with them for various reasons. Anyone any idea where this coming from? I'm struggling to locate the source.

I'm not seeing any overspill from the breather. I'm hoping its a cheap fix whatever it is, spent 5k on it last year. Thanks for quick reply.

Was the gearbox removed for the repair, I ask as it is often possible to do the repair by just removing the large end plate. If the gearbox was not removed then could be leaking from end plate gasket. If gearbox removed and stripped could be from many places, input shaft oil seal between the clutch and the gearbox, output shafts to the L and R drive shafts etc. Is it dripping out from under the clutch bell housing?

No the gearbox wasn't removed 68c, just the fifth gear end box. Thanks. I think I may have sussed it, I've just crawled underneath (amazing how low to the ground the engine is) and it appears to be coming from the speedo cable plastic housing as shown below. I'll try to nip it up but I'll need to be careful as its plastic. I wonder if there should be a washer of some sort?

It was surprisingly loose, easily tightened it about another 30 degrees. Ive cleaned it up and I'll keep an eye on it. Fingers crossed. Let me know if anyone has had a similar problem or has some useful tips. Thanks all.

Just in case anyone sees this topic with any interest or a similar problem it appears that an "O" ring may have failed. You can see it in the photo below. Google "Ducato Speed Sensor" if you need a new unit but be aware there appears to be a lot of variations

An O ring. You need to check that level in the box is ok. On early models they had a dipstick at the back but the level needed to be 20mm (3/4") higher than the 'high' mark on models with 5th gear.
If you haven't a dipstick then off the top of my head I think it needs 2,75litres of oil? Could ask on the fiat forum?

I think it's 2.7 litres is recommended now rather than the 2 litres fiat originally recommended
I doubt it'll have a dipstick, mine doesn't 2003

Correct no dipstick and yep 2.7 litres to protect the fifth. Looks like I'll need to replace the o ring on the speed sensor too. Anyone done this? Is it straight forward to remove and replace the unit?
