Good afternoon all

What is the best way to connect / wire up an additional 12 volt cigarette lighter direct (or indirect) to a leisure battery to offer additional options to run items, one inside the van and one that can be placed in the awning etc ?

Thanks in advance

many many years! since I was a kid
run a new fused wire back to the leisure battery for additional sockets. relying on the original cable is a recipe for disaster as it tends to be barely big enough to cope with the current to manufacturer installed sockets

use this calculator to determine the cable size needed.

your 12v socket will have a maximum rating of 180 watts so enter 180 in the watts field.
then work out how long the cable will be from battery to 12v socket.

Goodness 180 Watts is brave PappaJohn!

but not unusual.

standard fitment in-dash fag lighter sockets are rated at 120watts...10amps
accessory fag lighter sockets (even factory fitted ones) are generally rated at 180watts...15amps.

my car has 3....one in the dash 120w (10a)....one in the centre armrest 180w (15amp) and one in the boot. 180w (15amp).
