Why overcomplicate things? Just create a Google Map using My Maps, then embed it using the auto-generated iframe link. (Assuming vBulletin permits the use of iframes in posts - otherwise Jim will have to do it!)

Yes, that is what I do with my family history map which I have on Tribal Pages

Hi Jim, if we do just a regular Google map, that any member could add or edit, how can we guard against vandalism? If we could not, then I would need to tie it in with our database member logins which woulld need a bit of work

Hi Jim

yes, I see the problems with open collaboration .. and the work involved with having it tied to membership.

The quickest and easiest way is to have a map with just two or three volunteer collaborators placing the flags , same as you have on RVOC for the sites.

The map could be embedded in Fun or just have a link to it on the home page ..

It would be a bit busy to start off but would soon tail off to a few per week I guess.

I'm happy to volunteer if you go that way ..

How about splitting into regions Jim,I wouldn't mind doing the north east section if you wanted volunteers, that is nobody else wanted it. Alan:thumb:

Damnn good idea. As we are new to motorhoming we would love to meet up with others from here and the map would be a good starter for us.

A website to which I used to subscribe, had a map on which members were encouraged to pinpoint their location.

This allowed members to see where everybody else was located, by just clicking on the map.

Not exact locations, just the area. When you clicked on a pin it also gave profile information.

would it be easier to do this as a poll?
and group funsters according to areas like in the sites directories or counties?

a poll would only tell you how many in a particular county or region and not who lived where .. also some counties are quite large ..

a Google map easy, simple to use and perfect for the job, you can also add profile info and pictures that you want to share .... all voluntary of course, some will never use.
