This weekend we stayed fairly local around Winchester for Mrs Humberto's Birthday. I saw 2 extreme versions of Street Artists at work, a tradional street-artist (actually painting a Winchester street) and "The Mighty Gareth", a Chainsaw Juggler and Sword-Swallower.

Something for everyone in Winchester.

Looks like he should give up on the chainsaw juggling, nasty cut to the head.

Does he cut his hair with the chainsaw? That would explain the blood. :)

Interesting to hear about your earlier perceptions of St Malo. It's one of our favourite places to spend a long weekend (We live near Portsmouth and often go there as foot-passengers on the Ferry for the weekend). If you drive through town en-route to somewhere else then you are definitely missing a real treat inside the city walls and the beach below.
We are only 30 mins from Portsmouth aswell but the thought and cost going over to St malo in the motorhome is prohibitive Imo however may look at foot passenger or pushbikes or scooter when we get back

Go Humberto!

Brittany Ferries used to do the overnight crossing, including double cabin, and 2 nights in Hotel Univers (center of St Malo old town) for about £320 (£160 each). It's only 10 minutes walk to the hotel in St Malo and there's no need for a car. It used to be cheaper than staying in Britain for 3 nights.

Dinan is cyclable from St Malo (I've done it and used the Dinard Ferry from St malo to cross the estuary). All lovely places.

A picture or two from yesterday, first I wandered up to the station and had a mooch about. This little Draisine is something I intend to make a model of eventually. I will make it 1/6 scale.
image.jpeg

The river Doux flows through the town, Lamastre, and this is a view up one of the tributaries.
image.jpeg

Another view taken lower down in the small park.
image.jpeg

When this bird arrived I wondered if I had received "pigeon post"
image.jpeg

Today is market day and the town centre was choked with people.
image.jpeg

Yes I know the view above does not look so bad but seconds before I pressed the shutter ...

This afternoon I travel down the line to Boucieu behind this locomotive.
image.jpeg

Which I rode behind a week or two ago on another section of the line but return in/on this.
image.jpeg

I am looking forward to both. Departure is at 1445 but I will be up there about 1400 so I can do my train spotter thing! I won't be back until around 1830.

Cheers Clive

Parked up at Sis’s at mo...

Just been to check washing on line....

As I’d taken the opportunity to use their washing machine (y)

Anyway.... Picko (her fella) had dug a hole for a flag pole last night...

Just been to check if washing is dry - on the line...

And...

Luckily spotted this fella jammed down the hole...

It was a bugger to get him out..

But all is good.... except for Picko... i’ve grassed him up to Sis

I'm going through the photos from our recent trip to Spain to select those to use in an update to my first book. Most of them don't need a lot of work on but I am removing things like telephone wires which run across any bits of sky. But one shot I felt needed a bit more than gentle tweaking. Is it cheating? This is the original shot:

P4220246.jpg

This is the "slightly" modified version. With more work I could give it a blue sky with fluffy white clouds but I think that might be going too far. I've left Mrs DBK in of course. :)

It's not quite finished. I missed a bit of the wire around the top left sail and I might look at removing the shadow of the pole on the left as it looks a bit odd.

P4220246-mod.jpg

I suppose it's only cheating if people notice it. Or I tell them... :)

Trundled up the coast to Etel today. Aire is 8 euros and beaches all the way round including one to burn your bum on. Anyway the after sun seems to work. Bit of a shame about the amount of seaweed coming in. This isof the harbour area on the estuary at Etel. I must have taken the others on the decent camera. Quiberon peninsula on the bike tomorrow and I ll try to take more with phone

Good evening from a very hot Fanny though she is cooling now. It was 37°C when I opened her up on my return, down to 32°C now!

Had a lovely ride down to Boucieu Le Roi. The train left at 1445 as advertised and those of us stopping at Boucieu were to use voiture 7.
image.jpeg

A view of the Doux, taken on the way back. I have problems with my camera at the moment. It cannot read my SD card so these are from my phone. The view would have been similar but the sun in a different place!
image.jpeg

Above the train I arrived on is preparing to leave Boucieu.
image.jpeg

An information panel up from the station.
image.jpeg

The church is very interesting. In the past the town had been a ville étape used by the pilgrims en route. The exterior masks the inner earlier build as you can see by the centre roofline. The inside was quite beautiful in a simple uncluttered way. Victor our guide did an excellent job. Sadly the echo in the church made understanding it little more difficult.

The town was once fortified and of course much of that fortification was recycled in later centuries. A fountain had it parts incorporated in buildings if you knew where to look - Victor did.
image.jpeg

This panel was on the side of a house which the picture has failed on but the next photo shows another house of the style.
image.jpeg

The tour lasting about an hour finished opposite here and I made my way back to the station where I took a small reward. After all it was really quite warm!
image.jpeg

I wandered back to the station and had a mooch about. The style of the vélo rails here if much fancier than those I have seen before.
image.jpeg

On the return to Lamastre I caught Victor on film.
image.jpeg

If I can resurrect the photos from my camera card I will put more on Fannying about in France. I think the heat may have been contributory to the failure so I will not try anything before the cool of the morning.
I have decided to make my way down to Saint Jean de Muzols tomorrow to get a few shots of the engine arriving there. So I will be filming it's arrival here tomorrow morning and off then down there.

Thank you for looking. Clive

Good afternoon, it is beginning to look as if I am hogging this thread which I do not wish to do. If you would like to see more of my pictures/travels please look at Fannying about in France on the Continental Touring, France section. Thank you, I have no wish to get in trouble (I have managed to be in enough of that throughout my life and trying to limit it now).

So I left Lamastre this morning and stopped along the way to Soyons. A couple of pictures en route. Taken on the D533 travelling towards Soyons.
image.jpeg

image.jpeg

I am staying tonight at a France Passion site, it did realise it was one until I saw the sign after I had parked up for my visit. In the 2018 France Passion Guide book it is on page 102 Soyons. A happy coincidence for me.
image.jpeg

A view of the rocky cliff behind Fanny. Below part of the model railway I had come to see. Well worth the visit.
image.jpeg

Excellent Bistro/Bar as well. Spent my weeks pocket money in one fell swoop.
More elsewhere, shortly when I have put is there.

Cheers Clive

As promised a tour of the quiberon peninsula with stops at St Pierre and quiberon. Preferred st pierre as very quaint and less touristy but generous beaches both sides but the easterly side is clearer because no seaweed but no breeze either. Well worthy of a visit

Short and sweet today. I left Soyons this morning about 0900 stopping to fuel (gazole) then onto the N7 etc for the run up to Chamonix Mont Blanc. Stopped at Eybens and filled the GPL, a bit dear here but to be expected as it was at the side of the autoroute ish. Happy to pay a little more and know my tanks are full. At Ugine the road was blocked and the diversion was interesting being very narrow in places and no sooner it had started than a white car broke down on one of the bends blocking both ways. We got it moved and were underway again. It is interesting the blind faith these French drivers have. One artic driver was most surprised when he saw me, leaving much rubber on the surface and had considerable difficulty getting under way again. I was amused because the line of traffic behind him was already enormous. Anyway, I am here at Chamonix Mont Blanc now and here are the pictures. Not the best but finding somewhere to park is fun as I am sure many of you already know.

I has some stunning views on the way. So I will look and see if I can grab stills from the Next base Dash cam.

à bientôt Clive

Was 32c here yesterday for our BBQ.
The beer fridge on the patio was full of beer and was a perfect 4c :)

The freezer bit was -27c in case of warm beer emergencies.

Our pitch for the night is at a THS at Alnwick Rugby Club.
Nice pitch with good open aspects. £8 per night with services plus showers and toilets in the clubhouse if required (Bar when open) EHU on some pitches at extra cost.

Pitched next to this 5th Wheeler. Very Nice.
