"around 4t" didn't you get a print out front with and rear axels? I'm 4t with scooter hanging off the back end.

I mainly want to know what the rear axel is as unlikely to be over on the front or total weight.

Worth remembering that a litre of water weighs 1kg & a litre of diesel weighs about 840gm - just under 1kg (y)

:)Thank goodness for that, must be a weight off your mind.
I know the sick feeling I had. Might be worth a call to your council weights and measures about the P&O one as they might be overcharging for their cargo?

Yip i appreciate the weight of water all the more after keeping & breeding tropical fish for over 5 years , i moved enough water in them days :D

Yip i'm glad its all sorted now , and im sure ref the P&O weigh bridge it was more than likely human error and she must of meant to say "about 3 ton" as my final weight was 3180kg.
Btw just to make sure i understand how to calculate what the maximum weight / distribution of weight that my vehicle is allowed without uprating it as per my vin plate , is as follows :
VIN.jpg
Is this correct in what i think i'm legally allowed
Total weight of vehicle no more than 3500kg ( that is both front and rear axle weights added together )
I'm allowed up to 1850kg on the front axle
I'm allowed up to 2000kg on the rear axle
e.g i'd be allowed 2000kg on the rear + 1500kg on the front ,
Or 1650kg on the rear + 1850kg on the front ( but that weight distribution would suck ass >> )
but i would not be allowed 2100kg on the rear + 1400kg on the front , even though this would still give me a gross weight of 3500kg BUT the rear axle would be over weight.

Hi Bart,

Can't work out if I'm going to be indispute with a previous poster but, here goes.
You are allowed to have the overall weight at 3500kgs.
At THAT time, you COULD have a rear axle weight of 2000Kgs
At THAT SAME TIME you could have a front axle load of 1850Kgs.

I realise that the sum of the two axles is 3850Kgs BUT (and it's a HUGE but.)
Part of the weight on the front axle load is imposed on the back axle and vice versa, part of the back axle can be imposed on the front axle.

It is also to allow for when you have a load more to the front (or back ) and still be legal.

All the limits are on that VIN Plate. and providing that you don't go above them (or within a percentage point or two) you won't get any hassle.

Could I add that I have a friend who, inadvertently, gave up his 3500kg+ rights when he got to 70yrs old. He successfully applied to get them back at 72yrs old and is now the proud owner of a 4250Kgs motorhome

Higher individual axle weights are to allow for uneven loading.
You CANNOT, under any circumstances, exceed the gross weight, in this case 3500kg.
If the rear is loaded to 2000kg, the front cannot weight more than 1500kg....even though it is rated at 1850kg.

Pappa, I didn't say it could.
I refer you to what I said"
"You are allowed to have the overall weight at 3500kgs."
And, I can assure you that you can have a rear axle of 1850kgs and a front axle in excess of 1500kgs and still have an overall weight under 3500kgs.
I have seen it in real life, under real life conditions.

That leads to conflicting reading.

The sum of the weights of front and rear axles must not be more than 3500 with neither axle weight exceeding the individual limits on the VIN plate. If you were to measure 2000 on the rear and 1850 on the front, at the same time, the vehicle is 350 kg over weight.

If you say you have seen something different then it could only be have been due to errors at the weighbridge - which ironically is what this thread is about. :)

This isn't the best diagram but is the best I could find easily. If W is the weight of the vehicle (3500) and the centre of gravity (CoG) of the MH was midway between the axles the loading on each axle would be W/2, which would be 1750. Of course the CoG isn't in the middle but is usually nearer to the rear of the vehicle, but the sum of the loads on each axle cannot be more than the total weight of the vehicle. If it were the vehicle would be rapidly accelerating into space. :)

Of course you can....
1850 plus 1500 = 3350.
But in your post you said 2000 and 1850, not 1850 and 1500. ;)

i'm pretty sure that is what i gave up rights to when i got my new licence ,, as i said to the wife sure ill never want to be a truck driver ,, not even thinking or knowing about Motorhomes being over 3500kg , i should look into it ,, as you never know some day i might need it.

while we are at this , so now i know what my weight is, and i know what i am allowed per axle / or combined ,,,, BUT
According to my plate it has a figure of 6000kg marked on it as well ,, is that figure my tow able allowance ??
If so then and i have my MH loaded up till its max allowance of 3500kg , does that mean i can tow up till 2500kg ??

Yes, but are you sure it is 6000kg, 5000kg is the norm for the light chassis.

As for weight we had a payload of 590 kg but still found we had to upgrade to 3850kg and we don't even have an awning.

Whilst I understand what you are trying to say it doesn't work like that! Each individual axle is weighed and it is THAT weight that matters, so you cannot have a recorded weight on the rear of 2000kg and a recorded weight on the front of 1850kg as you would be overweight, simple as that! No ifs, no buts, the sum of the axles added together IS the TOTAL - if you are 3500kg you should check that each individual axle is not overweight, that's why it is important to get both the total weight AND individual axle weights.

Looking at the image of his plate (below) it is definitely 6000kg - this is ths same as we had on our previous PVC on the LWB chassis.

Dopey newbie question maybe MG - the total axle weights equal 3,850kg, yet the total gross weight is 3,500kg - could this MH be uprated to 3,850kg ?
i would say yes , but then i would need the C1 licence and be restricted to roads etc, i would only uprate it if I HAVE TO, so lets just hope now that i have established that my 1st weighbridge reading was Bullshite , and my new weight is 3190kg , i still have 300kg for the wife , etc, it will be interesting to see if we get bikes how much that puts it up by.

Yes...
As already said, its unusually for fiats to have more than 2000kg trailer allowance...maybe on a heavier duty maxi chassis.

Depends where you put them.
couple of electric bikes at 35kg each on a rack could be 100kg extra on the rear axle depending how far behind the rear axle they are but it should lighten the front axle by a few kg....fulcrum effect.

Our previous PVC on the LWB chassis wasn't a heavy duty one but had these weights ... haven't a clue why!

Our current Fiat XLWB heavy maxi based camper originally had the following weights:

Axle 1: 2100
Axle 2: 2400
GVM: 3500
GTM: 6500

Since we uprated the only change has been to increase the MTPLM to 4250kg.

Mine has a Fiat plate followed by an Alko plate followed by a Hymer plate , all are different and being the last one the Hymer one coincides with the V5 and the one not to ignore.

We had to go for lightweight folding Bromptons stored inside to save weight of tow bar and rack. motorhoming in general consists of compromises I find but the joys out weigh the problems.

My Swift plate inside the MH has the same weights as the Fiat Vin plate under the bonnet.

We upgraded after changing to e-bikes they weight 24kg each an increase of 20kg for the pair on our normal bikes, we also carry an extra 40Lt of water in the garage as our van only has a piddly little 100Lt water tank.

I apologise for my erroneous posting re the weights allowed on the motorhome.
Whilst in theory the front axle weight and rear axle weights should equate to the overall weight of the vehicle, from my experience they very rarely do.

I suppose what I was alluding to (very badly) was that the three weight limits are there in isolation and, providing you don't go over any of them, weighed at the same time, then you are legal.
