Just had 4x Conti Vanco Campers put on & took the opportunity to nip across the road to a recycling depot to get weighed...

So total was 3180 which is pretty much the same as I had from last year and way under the 3400 max (y) but I also wanted axles for tyres - trouble is it was one of those above ground units with a small ramp - I did the best I could getting the front just off the bridge to get another weigh. I'd love to have a 3rd but the guy was getting a bit tetchy so I didn't push my luck.

So rear was 1520, well under the 1900 max and by subtract I estimate the front to be approximately 1660, which ok I guess with a max front of 1750.

Anyway to get to the point - following funsters recommendations, I phoned up Continental Tech Services, gave my details and the very nice Emma advised that 3.75bar (54psi) front & 4.00bar (58psi) on the rear should do nicely.

Well I'm surprised - I'll need to be letting some air out, the fitters put in 70psi all round.
From general reading, I thought recommended pressures would be a lot higher than 55/58
Anyone else surprised?

Yes, I'm surprised.
Michelin quoted me 80psi rears and 58psi front. Mind you, my van is close to its max of 3800 :Eeek:

I'm not surprised
We're 4.2 tonne and have 47 and 72 psi in our Continentals
After 20,000 miles, tyre wear is even and fuel consumption is great

Depends on the tyre load rating but not really surprised, only thing I noticed was that the rear was higher pressure than the front but a lower weight.

I run 55psi front and rear, have done for years. Wear pattern is okay after 20k miles so must be near right.

Not surprised at all, my van is on the Ducato chassis and 4005kgs and I have Vanco Fourseasons tyres. Fiat recommend 5.5 bar front and back but I contacted Continental who sent me a chart for my tyres recommended pressures, now I have 49psi front and 62psi rear

Just got a new Rapido pvc which has come with Michelin camper tyres and I'm a bit annoyed. Previously had Continentals on the last van; and with sensible advised tyre pressures which gave a reasonable ride.

BUT Michelin always recommend 80 psi on the rear, regardless of the motorhome axle weight. Way too hard in my opinion, but what do you do if that's what the converter AND the tyre manufacturer both recommend? Grr...

As tyre pressures should not depend on make of tyre I'd like to put together a table based on the info supplied so far. To do that I'd need: Vehicle weight; axle weights (both loaded); tyre size (dia, aspect ratio, width); load rating; pressures for each axle (from tyre manufacture); make & type of tyre (camper, winter, summer, MS, etc). If it could be held somewhere accessible on the Forum where it could be added to as time went on it would be a useful resource.

For anybody who has not seen this I found it a really good read (sad I know) http://www.conti-online.com/www/dow..._info/download/technical_data_book_pdf_en.pdf

Start at about page 14 for van tyres, I could be wrong but I think if you find your tyre size and load rating it will give you your tyre pressure for various axle weights.

It might be worth a few interested people who have come by their tyre pressure some other way doing a cross reference and see if it works out using the continental charts.

Not long enough, but a little common sense helps..........
Well I have mine set to 61PSI having tried a few settings and find with or 350kg MH road noise and handling is fine. On the tyre monitor after driving for 1/2 hours they warm up to a max 71PSI all round, but usually sit around 68PSI mark. Happy enough.
