Not Long Enough.
Our first trip to France, in June, starts off by arriving at Ouistre-Ham (Caen) ferry terminal at approx. 2200hrs (their local time).:(
Can any Funster recommend a place to stay for the first night. Obviously its got to be within 30 mins drive at that time of night(y)
Thanks
Viv

There is an aire at Caen around the one way system which then brings you into a motorhome car parking space which is directly next to the ferry. You can be parked up with the kettle on whilst the ferry is still unloading.

It's a paying aire ( ticket machine) and I think from memory your ticket gives you a code to buy water. It could not be more convenient especially given the time the ferry gets in.

Several options around Ouistreham according to CC-Infos. Here is the map but you can search the site for specific details. http://www.campingcar-infos.com/index1.htm

If you want a camp site "Les Haute Couture" is a short distance from the port.
They are used to dealing with late ferry arrivals and have a system in place.

Book it in advance as at that arrival time, there will be no one to receive you, what they do is stick an envelope with all your details on the reception door, it will give you the barrier code to enter plus your pitch no.
Generally there will be others with you off the ferry. Have a look on google earth, it will give you an idea of how to get to the site.

If you stay an extra night, you can walk through the rear exit and along the canal and visit the famous Pegasus
bridge, cafe Gondria and the museum. Liberated during the Normandy landings. Very interesting.

I know some people fail to get to the Aire by the port, I think because of the one way system.

Enjoy your trip.
