Where can I buy gas in France

Can't remember if I've asked before but we already have one European beige/khaki propane gas cylinder which still has about half a tank left. We wanted to buy another one while in France so that we have two gas cylinders but am not sure where you buy them. I guess you can exchange empty tanks for full ones at service stations etc but where can you buy the complete item and any rough ideas of cost?

Many garages and DIY places sell gas but the actual supply will depend upon the make of the gas bottle. The more popular the make the easier it will be to find.

Without knowing the make it is difficult to be more specific.
