I have auto trail 634se which I tow a nisson note 1200 kerb weight is 1192 kg just in limit but I got a frame car a tow braked which then puts it over limit does the a frame add to cars kerb weight. If so I cannot tow it even though I have for latest four years

In my view, yes overweight. Everything attached to the tow ball is the ‘trailer’

You would be pretty unlucky to get done for it but still…..

Unless i am wrong the 634 is a panel van, so has no extended chassis or extension.
Standard Fiat vans used to have a tow weight of around 2,000kg..
So what does your weight plate state ???? Also check your Certificate of Conformity COC.

On my Apache 700 it was based on a standard Fiat van but because of having chassis extensions the tow weight got reduced to 1050kg.
Big van but low towing as it was based on the strength of the extensions.

Perhaps others can confirm but as long as you are below the train weight, ie van plus trailor you are ok.

If tHe difference between train weight and max van weight is 2000kg that is normally considered max trailor weight.
But if van is less the max van weight your trailor can be over 2000kg as long as max train weight is not exceeded.

The above needs checking ! ( am i right? )

Good point, worth checking. May be a solution.

If you have a VOSA centre near ond you can both drive it may be worth driving them both there and getting them to check

A photo of your converter’s plate may help the real experts on here.

Agree with David and Sally; don’t give up, make some changes. I tow a Toyota Aygo with a kerb weight of nearer to 900kg, would that be an option for you?

I'm afraid that is not the case.

According to the weight plate on my van I can tow 2000kg (5500-3500kg)

However, due to the chassis extensions, the tow bar manufacturer has set a 1050kg limit for the towbar.

You have four weights to consider .
1/. GTW Train weight which is total weight of tow vehicle and its load plus the trailer and its load all added together .
2/. GVW Gross Weight of towing vehicle , which includes any down load on the tow ball.
3/. Gross rear axle load This will also be affected by any down load on the tow ball .
4/. Maximum tow bar loading (either downward or tractive limit)
If you exceed any of these its illegal .

Depending on how much the car weighs, if you are only just over what does the spare wheel weigh? Could you not carry that in your van.

You are about to run out of free posts.

To my mind post no 10 nailed it.

You need to provide the 4 bits of info in post 10.
Without knowing these numbers it is not possible to answer your query.
If your towbar limits you to less than the weight of car and everything in it I think it will not be possible to tow legally.

Have you gone to a weighbridge?

Without that you cannot really get a definitive answer.

I'd go with empty fuel tank and get it weighed without driver.

Cheers James
