Since 1964 Gosh that makes me feel old.
Nestled beside the beautiful Loch Doon & right on the edge of The Galloway Forest Park is this delightful site.
Price currently (Aug 2020) is £15 a night, this includes electricity.

Loch Doon itself is 7miles long & a true hidden Gem.

The site is ran by a community group, so funds can be limited but the pitches are large with amazing views.
There is no toilet block, no club or other buildings of any type yet.
All pitches have electricity albeit at 8amps, there are fresh water & waste disposal points, you'll be guaranteed a warm welcome.

The site itself is around 1.5hrs from the English western border, the roads are very good & an easy drive for any size of motorhome, only the last mile & a bit is single track.
Sadly there is no pub within walking distance.

Castle Douglas is about 40mins drive & Ayr is about 30mins from the site along with numerous small villages.
Glen Trool is a short drive away with the visitors centre at the southern end of the glen.

At the dam before the site is The Roundhouse Café with decent fayre at reasonable prices
Ospreys can be watched from the comfort of the café with an observation camera.
The proprietor is Brian, he is really knowledgeable about the area & its well worth while having a chat.

The nearest village (small town) is Dalmellington where you'll find a decent selection of shops & takeaway food.
There are some amazing walks at every turn.
A beautiful forest drive is normally available at the southern end of Loch Doon, but sadly during the covid-19 lockdown fly tipping was rife, so that road is currently closed.
Loch Doon castle is about 6miles from the site, this castle was moved from its original island when the water level was raised by a hydro electric scheme.

There are usually pitches available but, phoning to book is advisable.

How the place looks at the moment mid winter cold, but still beautiful.
Its a bit of a shame that the site is closed in winter, but the road can be pretty slippery in the cold.
