We are on very nice and not inexpensive campsite in Norfolk this weekend.

Very busy as you can imagine given it is school holidays and the bank holiday weekend.

But what has amazed me is the amount of paraphernalia people have set up for their Caravans and Motorhomes.

Multiple windbreaks (Top marks to the Motorhome with 5.....), awnings, full size tents, gazebo’s, pup tents.... you name it, they are all on show....

It’s like looking at a refugee camp....

Sangatte hasn’t had a refugee camp for several years now though it still suffers from the reputation with Brits. We were very reluctant to use it before or after our channel crossing, until a couple of years ago when we were a bit stuck for a place. I’d gone too far up the coast road and missed our intended place. We never use anywhere else now, it’s a really nice place.
Though I do know what you mean about all the ‘stuff’ some regard as essential.

We used to use it when we were tuggers until they set up the camps, have been avoiding it since about 2005 didn't know it had improved.

by their very nature, sites can look like refugee camps, from our earliest camping days it's been like that..

you see all sorts.. from converted buses to Landys with a roof tent.. even seen a motorhome on an aire with a tent pitched on the roof !

when the kids were with us they liked to use a pup tent, gave them their own space..

we still take along wind breakers, and an awning, BBQ etc .. all depends on the weather and length of stay whether they get used or not..

gazeboes are a more recent thing.. some sites don't allow them as they can blow away and cause problems for others.. (so I was told)

A couple of examples... hope they are not Funsters.....

A lot have packed up today.... quite funny watching them in the windy conditions. The pic with the gazebo looked a little different when we returned from our dog walk, the Gazebo was upside down and just been held by one of the windbreaks....

Think we may have resembled some of what you saw when we took our grandchildren away. Awning for some to sleep in cadac outside plus table and chairs, bikes (5 when away with the boys) only reason there was no windbreak was becaue ground was too hard to get the posts in We were not overweight as we had the car too with some of the paraphanalia and to take the kids out for the day. We only take the awning if planning to spend about a week in one place, or have friends sleeping in it at festivals, which is rare. We do take a front for the rollout canopy. So far have not been overweight when we went over the weighbridge, even with the KTM.

I have never understood why people pay a fortune for a motorhome , with a nice fully fitted interior , and then sit in a tent outside , It would be much cheaper to just buy a van and carry a marquee in the back

Maybe because they like fresh air? It's a bit stuffy in the van at the mo even with all the windows open.

You obviously stay at the wrong Aires.

This one was free not another soul around apart from a couple of fishermen on the river.

Another free one.

I'll give you this one was expensive at €6 with 16 amp EHU & blindingly fast free wifi.
