Remapped

What are the advantages of doing this?
Why do the manufacturers not do this if it is advantageous?
What is the impact on your insurance?
 
Quite a few people do this for better performance and surprisingly usually better economy as well, you might want to tell your insurance but they tend not to be bothered, the manufacturers are usually tuning for a worst case scenario re fuel quality and driving standards, the average motorhome use is different to white van man, if nothing else we tend to do as many miles in a lifetime as many vans do in a year or two.
 
Have been motorhoming for 24 years now on our 3 rd motorhome
first one was a Compass drifter 460RB had a 2.5 Peugeot boxer very under powered then in 2003 we changed to Rapido 962m with the sprinter 2.7 cdi 157 hp what a brilliant engine August last year changed to another A class Rapido with a 2.3 Fiat ducato 130 hp Automatic whilst it drives nice it is sluggish to get going it but as soon as picked it up you could tell the difference can’t comment on mpg as haven’t done a long run
Had it done in Shrewsbury this morning they have got an offer on for March should be £360 but now only £299 the give a warranty and if you are not happy the will return old map and give you your money back
 
The manufacturers are tuning to achieve Euro 5 or Euro 6 standards. No one seems to check whether the Euro status is lost in the remapping process.

I had mine re-tuned to 160Hp as I worry about the clutch.
Its certainly more responsive but It not so much better and the MPG is definitely no different.
I think the Euro 6 engine has been choked to death with emission's filters.
Its not much better than the 'off the shelf tuning chip' -- I'd not bother again.

I have a tried and tested tuning chip for sale if you are interested.

Don’t think that is sticking correct

The dpf and where fitted the adblue will be still in place and the emissions are checked at mot against the euro type limits

MOT tests can only test emissions when the engine isn't under load. Which a remap is unlikely to affect. They'd have to put it on a rolling road to be able to tell. Given how many years it was before dieselgate was confirmed, this seems unlikely.

I agree.

Edit. Though they might find it easier to look for changes to the ECU. I think this is how they check trucks for AdBlue by passing.

Given how locked down and non standard OBD2 comms are, this won't be easy either.

You can get remapped to stop using adult costs about £200
No affect on mot or emissions output
We had our work vans done no drop in performance saved a fortune on adblue and sales through mots defo worth doing

We have every diesel vehicle that we buy remapped. Always improves drivability and if you stick to same driving speeds and pedal pressure as before there is always a small improvement in fuel consumption. There is a bigger improvement with cars rather tha large vans or motorhomes etc but with the price of fuel, even a single mile per gallon helps.
Ignore the people who worry about clutch failure etc. I have never heard of a genuine case of any type of failure after remapping. We had a SAAB which was way over-tuned. We drove it for a further 70.000 miles with zero problems and that was absolutely wild. Original clutch etc and zero problems.
Well done for getting it done. Please report in the future on your thoughts after getting used to it.

Is it worth getting a 2011 boxer with 2.1 diesel engine done?
Would i see any performance improvement?
 
I had my Hymer B544 done last year, it's on the 4250kg chassis and we found it a bit hard going up here in the Highlands with all our hills. It was remapped to 160bhp and it is better, not racing fast but pulls better now, can't say it's any better for MPG though, but no worse. As far as engine goes, it's just had timing belt and new clutch.

I had our 2.3 Fiat remapped to 165bhp by Dunning Automatics in Weymouth, he warned me not to go any higher as he programmed his own to 185 and ripped the center out of the clutch, refitted with a Sachs clutch and it did the same, he then remapped it to 165bhp

To rip the centre from a clutch it must have been driven like they stole it.
I had my 2.3 130 manual, mapped to 180 over 6 years ago by Avon tunning ,” and I have had no issues whatsoever.
I notice the increase in torque on hills more than anything else, and a much smoother drive.
But I don’t drive it like an Italian sports car. 😉
 
We had our 3L V6 5300 KG’s Hymer S830 done last year after taking advice from others that had already done it.
MPG best before was 14.6L/100km’s (19.35mpg)
After Map MPG is 13.4L/100km,(21,04mpg)
1.73mpg difference 8% extra mileage per gallon.
Results taken after a 3500 mile trip down to Gibraltar driving same as always done.
Map HP increase was 185 to 225HP
Torque increase was 400Nm to 500Nm
It was done at EcoPower Remaps at Doncaster.
