Does anyone use a separate electric grill in the van?

We have only two gas burners and I think a small grill/griddle plugged into the mains might be good for steak or gammon, etc.
 
we use a electric grill.

We had a oblong one about 1200w (if I remember correctly). Worked well until the wind blew and then the food would never cook.

Purchased a round one this time with a glass lid, works a treat - love it.

Purchased a electric BBQ - rubbish - cooks the food but not enough heat to brown the meat
 
We have a Small George Foreman and it's great. Quick and easy to use and often use it outside instead of bbq.

I second the small George Foreman. Cooks both sides at once and only 600w so won’t trip a low supply.

We have tried various types and they are ok, but then I found this for 6 euros in a charity shop in Javea, its a Pizza oven but really a large electric pan. Absolutely brilliant, can get as hot as you want it, will do curries, steaks and I even throw chips on it.

Small George Foreman works brilliantly for us. Often use it outside and in preference to the grill in the van.

If you get an aluminium lid to fit it for when frying etc you'll find it cooks quicker and crispier than using a glass lid which causes condensation to form on it which then drips on to the food/hot plate below, but a glass lid is ideal for stuff you want to keep very moist or when cooking stuff with sauces.
 
Agree about the Foreman. I've used ours for steaks gammon etc, but you can also do roast parsnips in it and heat the chilled garlic slices in it and frozen potato wedges. Just have an experiment at home with it before you try it away in the moho

You were probably as disappointed as me then. Drills I can understand, grills, well, can't get excited about them.

Your right HD, I was ready to extol the virtues of my cheapy Erbauer tools from screwfix.:)
 
We have a single electric hot plate that we use as saves gas when on site, used more than we thought we would.



The handles are useful as you can move when HOT, which comes in handy.(y)
 
I’m actually looking for something that can be used in the awning, on emu as a proper grill ie. it will do cheese on toast! Whenever we stay long enough to put the awning out then I prefer to do all my cooking in there. At the minute I am using a single electric ring, a remoska and a toaster. I can fry stuff in a pan or similar and can do most things in the remoska but would like something that works as an overhead grill. I thought about one of the grill/ oven combinations but they are very big and bulky for the room inside them. I have an electric grill plate thing that opens up which I can use as a griddle. Is it possible to set something like the George Forman grill so that it stays open to allow you to grill the top of something without it touching?

You might be able to do something like that with a sandwich press/panini grill if you can support the top in some way, they adjust to allow thin and thick bread etc so wouldn't be too difficult to do I should think.
