I've just got the French and German emissions stickers for our new van. Do they actually have to be physically stuck to the inside of the windscreen? On our last van I stuck them to a piece of stiff polythene and stuck that on the windscreen. A good choice as we hade two new windscreens in 18 months. I'm wondering about doing the same. Trying to interpret the German and French instructions.

According to a German friend they should be stuck directly to glass but having had to replace them after a broken screen I now have them in permit discs ( Halfords). The crit air seems specifically designed so as not to be removed
If anyone over there spots this and doesn’t like it I’ll stick em to screen

Pretty sure that both have to be physically stuck to the windscreen (bottom right hand corner) but how seriously that is policed is another matter.

Unless Germany has got more technical in last few years, same friend admitted after a few drinks that only if you parked in the relevant area was it possibly that a wandering warden would actually check. There is no camera system. It’s just that they are programmed to observe the rules

Stick to the glass in the correct place.

It's unfortunate to have to replace two windscreens in 18 months, I don't think I've have had to replace one in 18 years!

Given the combined cost to replace the stickers is only about £10, you can just add it to the windscreen bill if you have to replace a third screen.

The Germans are however slowly introducing ANPR in certain places

I've got my two stuck on a bit of acrylic which I pop in the dashboard trough next to the windscreen. Any problems and I'll give a Gallic shrug.

They also have mobile cameras pointing directly at the right hand corner, as we passed them in Wiesbaden last month👍

Oh dear have mine on perspex too although i think the German one may be in the old tax disc holder on the wrong side oops

Officially:

For the Brits:

Where do I have to put the green sticker?

Where to put the green sticker? If the requirements for the purchase are met and you have received the sticker, all you have to do is attach it to the vehicle and nothing stands in the way of driving into an environmental zone.

The badge is attached to the windshield from the inside. It is recommended to mount it at the top or bottom of the passenger side. This means that it does not obstruct the driver's view and is easy to read from the sidewalk.

The link if you want to check:

I usually tuck it down far enough on the bottom right that the Reg No is just visible above the black hash around the screen.

I assume top right will work for you RHD guys....

We also had to have a windscreen replaced on previous van. The Autoglas man managed to get the German one removed OK as it’s sticky back plastic and he said they aren’t too bad but no chance with the French one as it’s perforated paper. On our latest van we just keep the French one ready in the glove compartment on the off chance we’re going to need it. We only stuck the German one on last year after about 3 years!

Neither are exactly expensive mind you so I don’t really know why I’m making such a fuss about it!

And there’s the rub, the U.K. is installing CAZ zones between £50-100 per day depending on vehicle FOR EACH AFFECTED CITY and here we are finding ingenious ways to save a few euros in the unlikely event of the windscreen going through!! We ought thank our lucky stars the these countries only don’t charge US by the city!!
It’s a few euros for the lifetime of the vehicle!!!! (Windscreen permitting)

Are these stickers for the country or are they for the ciy you are visiting, and hence need multiple stickers if traveling through a country.

Thanks for any replies.
