Going through the names of friends to send Christmas cards to in the address book. This year there were many more crossed out, not because they had been forgotten, they were sadly deceased. On the plus side we are not crossed out, yet.

In 100 years (like in 2123) we will all be buried or cremated with the relatives and friends we know now.

Strangers will live in our homes which we worked so hard to build, and they will own everything we have today. All our possessions will be unknown and unborn, including the car we spent a fortune on, and will probably be scrap, or possibly in the hands of an unknown collector.

Our descendants will hardly know who we were, nor will they remember us. How many of us know our grandfather's father?

After we die, we will be remembered for a few more years, then we are just a portrait on someone's bookshelf, and a few years later our history, photos and deeds disappear in history's oblivion. We won't even be memories.

If we paused one day to analyse these questions, perhaps we would understand how ignorant and weak the dream to achieve it all was.

If we could only think about this, surely our approaches, our thoughts would change, we would be different people.

Always having more, no time for what's really valuable in this life. I'd change all this to live and enjoy the walks I've never taken, these hugs I didn't give, these kisses for our children and our loved ones, these jokes we didn't have time for. Those would certainly be the most beautiful moments to remember, after all they would fill our lives with joy.

And some of us waste it day after day with greed, selfishness and intolerance.

Every minute of life is priceless and will never be repeated, so take time to enjoy, be grateful for, and celebrate your existence.

Enjoy every day !!!!

The sad thing is that Hitler has already been remembered longer than any of us will ever be :frowny:

Even his evil is slipping away into history as those who experienced those times leave us and are forgotten.
War medals are being sold for pennies the world moves on
When my parents died I shredded their memories all the photos that my mother felt were precious
Many with people on that noone but she new.
The few family ones that may be appreciated by her siblings and friends were passed on
To be shredded by their next generation.

It's the way of the world
We're born we live, laugh love and cry then we die

Get over it we can't change it :xrofl:

Just remember every act of kindness

Christmas Cards...
What an absolute waste of time and resources.
Maybe 12/15 yrs ago Mrs Poppycamper was sending Xmas cards to all and sundries.
Quick tally revealed it was costing us circa £400 to send bits of card to everyone..
So we decided that the last year we sent cards we would inform everyone that we would no longer be sending Xmas Cards and all money saved would be donated to the charity of our choice.
Estimate that over the last 15yrs we have donated approx £7000 to charity.

We still send Xmas cards every year.
and every year the list gets a little smaller.

Even 5 years ago I'm sure we used to cover all 4 sides of the living room in cards, this year we will be lucky if we receive enough to cover 2 sides.

Hi.

Here’s a test question: do any of us remember any previous incarnations? As we don’t, this is it. 💨

Think of the money you are saving in postage;)

well, maybe, maybe not, but i do recollect a family pub in the west country and was able to describe it exactly to my mum down to the large parrot cage down by the window overlooking the harbour and the chevron brickwork just inside the door with the oak timbers above and looking towards the long bar..

there are no family photos of this place and at the time of my mothers first and only visit i hadn't been born, she was about five months pregnant with me..
i don't have an explanation, its just a mystery..

The idea of reincarnation of course exists in some religions. In the West it was, I think, a fairly popular preoccupation in the 20s and 30s. So Don Marquis, who wrote "Archy and Mehitabel", could have Mehitabel, an alley cat and protagonist to Archy (a cockroach). Mehitabel was the reincarnation of Cleopatra and often reminisced about her lost glories. Some of the humour relied on this - grand old dame fallen on hard times. (Delightful storytelling and characterisation - still in print.)

For myself, sometimes I imagine I was Genghis Khan (when someone irritates me), sometimes that I was Aristotle (when someone is being thick) and so on 🙂

(But just to be clear I'm actually a hardcore non-believer :giggle:)

Tell you what does it for me knowing more people that are now dead than ones that are still alive. :(

Going on from this ,if I walk through our village ,where I used to know everyone, I don't know hardly any of them now but I know near enough everyone in the grave yard.

On the positive side he or she who dies with most Toys wins ;)

I remember someone telling me that there are more humans alive today than the cumulative total of all those who have died before. I am sure this is nonsense and the diagram below probably give a realistic representation.
