Want to put one of those extra security locks on habitation door but does anyone experience of fitting one they say they are quite easy to fit is their any drilling of holes or anything to damage the van and are they worth it

I fitted a Fiamma hand rail that folded across the door to lock it. Provided there is room around the frame and on the inside for the backing plate, it's a relatively simple job BUT you do need to drill the van, sometimes right through the exterior wall.

I measured it about a dozen times, then left it about an hour before measuring again before drilling the first pilot hole. When that worked according to plan I drilled the two bolt holes.

I think there are locks that mount on the door frame without drilling through the body wall, but I have no experience of those.

We have 'Pop Up' buttons on our doors.
There is a lip on the door card where the button emerges (Fiat x244 pre 2006)
I drilled a small hole through the lip and on through the button with the button in the DOWN position. It is IMPORTANT to drill slightly to one side of the button because there is a steel rod running up the middle of the button.
That allows the insertion of a rivet through the hole and in doing so prevents the button being unlocked. We obviously have to leave the 'van through the hab. door.

I fitted a Milenco hab door lock to our Autotrail Savannah and I have to say that it was not straightforward.

I was not happy to think that the lock would be squeezing the walls and insulation from both sides having looked at their design so fitted a stainless steel plate on each side tp spread the load which necessitated buying 4 longer bolts.

I also sikaflexed under the stainless steel plates to ensure a watertight fit.

Drilling the four holes was potentially a brown trousers moment but provided you mature and measure again and drill pilot holes first you should be OK.

I think the OP is referring to the hab door not the cab doors.

So he does, but anything that can increase the security of our entry points has to be good.

There will be Funsters on here that will open the thread because it says,"Extra Door Lock".
Those Funsters wouldn't know until they read the OP that he/she was discussing the Hab. Door.

I fitted my own double locking deadlocks to our Exsis hab and drivers doors in a previous life was a carpenter and security advisor so found it quite easy however you do need to drill the door and there is a pre drilled plate on the inside behind the ddoor lining it's important that you use this as its a strong plate and is at the correct distance from the edge of the door.
If you are not a competent DIY er then Harrison locks will provide and fit for you at a cost though.
As far as I'm concerned they are well worth fitting if you look at the locks that are fitted as standard they are rubbish and any thief with a bit of knowledge could get through it easily.(y)(y)(y)
