At midnight we are heading back to the UK from France via Dieppe ferry terminal.
How alert should we be for stowaways? Or is this a safe port, with not much problems as far as stowaways are concerned.

We were there at the end of June and not aware of any.

Pretty safe they moved them all further along the coast to Cherberg a few years ago.

We caught the midnight ferry 2 weeks ago, parked by the inlet to the marina for a couple of hours to watch the boats coming in, then moved into the ferry queue about 9 o'clock.
It was unbelievably quiet!

Not an issue when we passed through in May, no sign of refugees.

A quick check should take a few seconds then good to go.

Returned via Dieppe 3 weeks ago and no sign of migrants at the port, on the approach roads or in the surrounding area.
I've crossed there two or three times a year since before we joined the Common Market and I've only twice seen migrants there - both occasions were more than 10 years ago - camped on the beach beside the port.
Incidentally, just a passport at check in at Dieppe that took 5 mins. No questions or rummaging for stowaways.
Going out from Newhaven I just handed over a passport and (paper) Covid cert at check-in. No questions about gas off or fridge contents.

And we’ve stayed overnight at Cherbourg (near the submarine museum, very interesting btw) and not seen any would be immigrants. Felt very safe.

Been via Dieppe 3 times this year, never seen anyone dodgy. On Caen ferry tomorrow not heard of any problems there either.

4 or 5 years ago they were camped on the grass bank above the Aire, washing at the Bourn taps & knocking on Motorhome doors asking for €10 for a meal while holding a mobile in the other hand. And a food wagon outside the Aire a food wagon set up dishing then out food in the evening.

They were only there about 2 years before they moved them on.

Ah. I mostly approach from the Rouen direction so don't go past that Aire.

Did the food taste O.K ?

(Your parsimonious reputation still intact I trust?)

It is normally fairly quiet, no sign of Illegal immigrants. anywhere.

I came from Dieppe three weeks ago on the 11:00 ferry. Parked for the night on the street parking just down from the entrance. There were no people trying to stowaway and going through customs was no issue, no covid check and a swift look around the cabin, didn’t check the fridge, a quick look into the garage and have a nice day.

We were waiting in the queue at Dieppe, inside the gates and a dog handler started shouting right next to us. 3 stowaways dropped out of a lorry chassis one just ran off sharpish

Never seen any activity around the Aires or the port. They do, however, have some very keen and inquisitive dogs on duty at the port itself so that may put nem off. Last December we did see a huge coypu stroll across in front of us and while we were waiting to embark , heading off to the waters edge....
