hi, done this 20 years ago, just turned up and sailed no problem ,now not allowed in the stand by queue. my question is,and i thank anybody that answers if i just turn up about the end of this month buy a ticket at armadale port office, will i have trouble getting on the ferry/ ie. long queue etc, 7 mtr outfit

Most CalMac short haul ferries are turn up and go. It's surprising how many vehicles they can get on. You'll get directed where to fit in.

It'll be a risk quite honestly given the changes to ticketing but out of season you may well be fine. I hope you've checked the prices as they've gone up dramatically for anything over 6m :-/

I think some areas of Scotland may have school holidays at the end of September \ beginning October that could impact availability?

Think there's also some vessel servicing coming along that will impact some services.

All if buts and maybes though!

Why don’t you, as soon as you know what day and approximate time ferry you want, just book online and pay then you can sit in the booked lane?

Mallaig/Skye ferry IMV very quiet.
We were booked on a sailing one afternoon last Aug.. got there mega early and pulled into carpark to wait 3hrs..
Had a thought.. what if.. so drove 100yrds to ferry terminal for the ferry before ours and said to the guy, any chance of getting on this one? No problems he said.
Boarded ferry and it was about a quarter full.??
PS.. a lot of folk won't pay for ferry when bridge is free!

We took the Armadale to Malaig ferry last Friday morning. Booked it the previous afternoon so less than 24 hrs. 7m van cost £33. This is the first time we have used a ferry for the van. Found it straight forward.
