Recommendations please - going very soon and will obviously consult the Oracle (AKA All the ...) but a recommendation (or otherwise) from a Funster has got to be worth its bulk in brioche, or something.

Is it me, or in our 'Aires/Campsites etc' section, is there really no overall map?

We have never found an aire at Tours, or even close to it. There are aires at Vouvray, Azay-le-Rideau, Villandry and Amboise. Also municipal sites at Montlouis-sur-Loire, Veretz, Amboise, and Chinon (bit further away) and a campsite at La Ville-aux-Dames that offers motorhome stop-overs (not sure if municipal or private).

The only places we have stayed are Chinon and Amboise (and many years ago Veretz in a tent). None offer easy access to Tours other than perhaps a train from Amboise. A couple of years ago we drove into Tours on a Sunday and parked very easily, but a lot of the town was shut of course.

The nearest Aire we've used is an hour further south down the A10 at Parc Futuroscope, Jaunay-Clan, a little way north of Poitiers. It's huge, and you don't have to visit the park itself to use the Aire. If you arrive after 5pm and leave before 8am it costs peanuts. For details, click the link in my signature below, then go to the Guide page.

We stayed on the Aire at Vouvray and there is a France Passion site nearby.
I am counting the days down till next Friday when will be going too.

Scotjimland's find above has to be the closest and at just over €18 per night for two (without EHU) that's not bad for a campsite on the edge of a major city.

Just South of Tours on the N10, Is a place called MONTBAZON..
Between the river at Montbazon and the A85 motorway is a signed Aire only 50mtrs off the main road and close to the Intermarche, has grey dump and free fresh water. Places are a bit cramped and sometimes cars are parked there BUT very handy for getting the water filled.
Also 50mtrs away is a set of traffic lights with a tourist office, behind that is a campsite.
Opposite it is signposted to Veigne. Only 3km off the N10 and there you will find a small campsite, all signposted, also has a free aire outside the gates.

If your heading futher south then there are several others not far away. Sainte - maure- de touraine, La Celle, Dange st romain (you can park behind the church nex to the school)

The aire at Vouvray is close to the MW and we found it easily. The problem could be it's only small so maybe crowded at busy times.

Go down the N10 to St Maure de Tourain,(not sure of spelling) the aire is just off the main street (N10)

Hi, Vouvray I believe is the closest only 3 spaces map refs n47.40916 e00.79735 There's a campsite at Veigne "camping de la Plage" map refs n47.28929 e00.73439. Hope this helps Have a safe and good holiday
Yes I noticed that the actual map on the aires section has disappeared (shame)

Thanks for all of these.

I found this campsite - Camping les Acacias

http://www.camplvad.com/

Bearing in mind they are advertising the no 50 bus, that takes you into Tours in 20 mins.

Will make a note of the other one too.

That's what we thought about Aires really - ie lack thereof!

We'll probably land up somewhere entirely different, depending on which way the rain is flowing!

EDIT No we won't make a note of Jim's one - since they don't open until 15 June! Thought I recognised the name !
