Hi all, we are travelling down through France early in the new year and looking for stop overs. Has any one used Camping Car Parks and what is your opinion using for overnight stops? I believe pay £5 account set up, put credit on your account and book sites on line - does this work ok? Looks good to me as they have lots of all year sites and you have the confidence of booking sites ahead. I might be over worrying but we are traveling will be out of season. Thanks

Actually to my knowledge it doesn't carry a name....there are a group of Camperstops in the Castile la Mancha Region that offer this scheme.....if you look on Park4Night and find the Red Motorhome symbol that carries a 6.05€ overnight charge...that's the ones....credit card payment on entry...

They also have a habit of not allowing / deleting negative reviews, so best to ask on here if you've got your eye on a specific one :)
It’s worth checking on Search for Sites for reviews too.

We were there in August and it is a good one with some nice cycling along the river. Is the town open now - it appeared to be almost totally shut for the two days we stayed!
That’s one of the reasons we can’t “get into” France, apart from it’s too dammed expensive it’s always bloody shut where we go.

People tell us to keep off the toll roads so we’ll see France, when we do it’s like everywhere is closed and no human beings anywhere, everywhere is like Walking Dead with no zombies 🤣😟

That's what makes it so nice, no crowds of people, no one getting in your way when taking photos, it's brilliant.

Yes I can see your point Lennie, your photos, which are very good btw, show exactly my point. No people, no life, no atmosphere.

Where do they all go?? 😱

I often spent 10 min or more waiting for people to move out of the way as I want a photo of the building or the scene not some holidaymaker in a bright red or yellow tee shirt.

And I'm the same. I like my photos without random strangers photo bombing them 😂

We used CCP on our trip through France earlier this year and enjoyed every one of the sites we stayed at. We upgraded to the privilege pack whilst staying at their site in Toulouse - we got our money back from the discount we received from the site at Toulouse and the next site at Argeles sur Mer. We even got an old-fashioned paper map!
We will definitely use them again (y)

You're clearly visiting the wrong places...

I might well be so where are the right places on route to Spain and vice versa
Far to many to list here, we never use toll roads, and when in France seek out "Les Plus Beaux Villages de France"

I’m not doubting that, but not sure if it’s very consistent - I just looked at reviews for one CCP (Utah Beach) which has mixed reviews. A pretty damning 1 star review was given a prime position.

But I know (from personal experience) ACSI reject some negative reviews.

They are brilliant. Easy to use and great value. Wish we had a similar system here in the UK

We have used CCP since they started. They have grown like topsy. Many ex camping sites do not have hard standings so beware in wet weather. Reviews tend to be positive in the main and I have had less than favourable reviews never appear! Internet is generally poor and I have had 2 cases where it was not even equipped for WiFi though advertised. Reported and told technical team would report back (still waiting) In summary we find most are good, some are poor, occasionally awful. If you check and the site is always nearly empty there is usually a reason. This year for the first time we had a couple of occasions where French campers arrived at 2.00am and parked next to us with lots of banging and shouting. Bless the French! Also get used to campers who are not on site parking outside and emptying toilets under cover of darkness!

Back to the OP, Camping Car Parks. We have used them on and off for a few years now and all the advice given above stands. They are beginning to creep up in price now of course, originally they seemed to be €10 now more like €15.
They are quite well maintained but we have noticed the grass areas can be unkempt
The help lines appear to be 24/7 and the helpful staff speak good English.
Many are ex-Camping Miniciples or aires, so often handy for visiting a town.

As we like wilding if possible they can prove useful to refresh services or if you need EHU. They allow a part-payment if you only stay 5 hours for this purpose.

We got caught by one quirk of their system this year which is worth sharing;
After less than 5 hours at one CCP using the services we left for the night as there was an event on in a nearby town.
Returning the next day we re-entered for a planned 2-night stay, this was less than 24 hours after we left the previous day.
Only later did we find out that unless you remain away for at least 24 hours the original entry is taken as the start point and their system charges you continuously.
Happily CCP did refund us for the lost hours but now I know this I would ensure I left it 24 hours before returning in future.

We have just returned from a 2 week trip down the west coast of France and used CCP for the first time. The sites were clean and varied in price from 10E to 15E inc EHU. We thought they were great particularly the one at mont saint Michel where the cycle path borders the site and you can cycle directly to the island. the app works well too.

We've just got back from 6 weeks in France and used Camping Carparks all the way back up during the last two weeks from the South. Practically all the campsites had closed by then anyway and it was our first time so we were not familiar with how to find the Aire networks...albeit I think CC are taking over a lot of these. Through the Dordogne and Loire they had some in great locations (we love going on long peaceful dog walks direct from site and by the Dordogne was particularly peaceful and stunning...am sure its not so peaceful in summer though lol!) and a few even had showers and toilets still open! We purchased our card before we went and put 30 euro on and just topped it up on the phone app as we went along. It was so easy to use (just tap in and tap out) and you have a whole 24 hours and can leave and come back if you so wish, although we never did that. You can see how many spaces are available too so that's helpful, never an issue for us. Highly recommend and if you are not going in peak season I wouldnt worry about privilege pack.

The only thing is though it depends where you are going. We travelled West from Ypres, following the WW1 route and then across to Alsace, in to Switzerland and then back in to France at Lake Geneva and headed south via Annecy and we thought we had wasted our money as did not find any on our route until we got to Provence, then it was easy. The paper map is very useful to, so you can see at a glance where they are in relation to where you are going, but the App knows your location and will show you sites that are closest to you and you can choose map view and see where they are on your route. Definitely worth having as an option.

We prefer municipal aires when we travel France, but we've found some CC aires very convenient and easy to use with the app.
As said above, good value for the price.

I used one of the two in Biarritz earlier this year. Card still functioning after five years from previous use. Does what it says on the tin. There are sufficient aires in France that one may use them or not as suits your location and circumstances.
