does anyone know if replacing the drive shaft oil seal on the nearside does the seal fit from the outside or does the plate on the side of the dif have to be removed
i assume you need to drain the box and refill with the correct amount of oil through the reverse light switch is this the gear box they recomend over filling slightly to lubricate 5th gear?

This won't help but are you sure only the seal has gone? A leaking seal can be a sign of play in the bearings.

The x250 has 6 gears so no need to over fill for the added 5th gear. on the 2.3 and 3.0 the oil is put in through a fill hole fitted with a hex key bolt on the top front of the gearbox so the correct amount has to be added. I think the plate has to be removed to fit the seal on the left side, no plate fitted to the right side.

I can categorically confirm I know F***K all about the question and even less about the answer but do hope you get it sorted because meets without Dell boy and Di will just not be the same.
