I assume that it is a temperature-sensitive switch, designed to cut power if the fins get too hot, but I could be wrong. Does it have a name please?

Yes it's a temp sensitive switch, possibly to turn cooling fans on in hot weather.

Thanks: that would make sense. My cooling fan wasn't working but since reconnecting a spade terminal on this it is OK.
