Health Insurance is becoming a problem for extended periods away.

How is everyone covering this issue? Is the EHIC alone good enough for Europe travel? We do also have private medical insurance but not sure what the overseas cover is on that. I will check.

I am trying to arrange this now for at least a 3 month trip this time into France.

We have had 180 days insurance from EHIC plus. You have to use the EHIC for medical treatment but they will fly you home if you need it. Mr Hils has medical conditions so its not always easy to get insurance. Also you have to phone them to get the 180 days. https://www.ehicplus.com/

We have used L V for the last 8 years. Both now 70 years old without any major health problems For 90 days duration the cost of renewal was £178.

Our bank account includes good "free" health insurance up to the age of 80. Have to pay extra to extend it beyond 45 days, but rates are not too bad. Because we have been with them so long we do not get charged anything for the account either - their original offer to us said it would be free for life and they have stuck to that. Mind you it is the only reason we have remained with Lloyds.

We are also Lloyds customers, nee TSB, since 1972, but were told we would not be covered worldwide anymore due to age and previous medical conditions, they would cover me for Europe only, but at a substantial cost.
Now with ADAC for breakdown cover and medical insurance.

My wife took out a UK based yearly one last year to cover going to Australia. One unforeseen benefit of it is that it also covers her monthly flights back/forward to the UK. It covers health, cancellations, delays etc; Only thing specifically excluded is any existing ailments. 121€/year
