Hi
It has been suggested to us (by a Funster and the former owner of our van) that even though we have a solar panel that tops up both leisure and cab battery, if we intend to wild camp, a second leisure battery would be required. That being the case, could someone give an indication of whether a second leisure battery would fit the van and how complex is it to be connected up to whatever is required to to keep it chrged up from the solar panel, EHU when available and the alternator.
Is this a big (and hence expensive) job; indeed is it even possible?

Easy enough to link two batteries, the hard part is finding somewhere close to the original for it to live.
The further between them the thicker the linking cable needs to be.
More than a couple of meters will need cable as thick as a jump lead...at least 16mmsq.
A shorter distance may need 10mmsq.

Best practise regarding which battery is best....if the original is a couple of years old, remove it and buy two new ones.
If it isnt very old then simply buy one new, make and capacity (ah) dont matter but obviously bigger is better.
Voltage and age do matter.
The reason for not mixing old and new....
An old battery will have lost some efficiency and will pull the new one down to its efficiency level so you will never get all the power you should.

Thanks pappajohn-i'm not sure where the second battery will fit. The Funster who suggested it thought it could fit under the passenger seat. Will see what the dealer says when we go.
