Just had a knock on the motorhome door to be told that we are on flood alert. Think we will leave a day early tomorrow so if you are booked in to stay in the next few days then ring first. Came back from York centre this evening and under the bridge nearest the site the road was half covered with water and has risen quite considerably from yesterday.

Get them to open the back gate if the water comes up to the office, otherwise your habitation area could get flooded on the way out.

Not many white pitch markers (denoting awning allowed) exist at Rowntree since CC introduced new separation rules by an extra 10 feet. About 100 odd pitches available but only around 12 white pegs. Apparently, the works building separating the site is to be demolished giving an extra 20 pitches but all none awning - blue pegs!

Since 1964 Gosh that makes me feel old.
I've had to exit from the rear gates before. A worrying experience but the site staff took it in their stride.

Does the actual site flood then? Lived in York for 1st 20 years of my life and flooding was just a regular part of life, but never had reason to be on the site side of river as there never used to be anything there so honestly can't say how high it floods that side. The part close to town floods but its steep so didn't think it effected much once further back. I know the road floods and just assumed rather than risk letting people drive through it and end up in the river they open the back gate to get in and out. If the site floods how high up and do they just close the pitches next to the road or do they close the site?
We have booked in for 9 days over Xmas and if we were cancelled last min would be a problem.

Since 2009 with motorhomes several caravans then tents before that.
We've camped at acaster malbis in York . That area floods quite often. It's down the river, out of York too.

That was planned the week we stayed last year, October/November can't remember, so we got our pitch for £1 a night. Didn't start while we were there, has it still not happened?

The new area is done, but still work going on with the motorhome services point earlier this week.
The pitches in new area are nice think two are awning ones the end ones I think. :)
