Need to be in Brugge for an appointment in April and thought might like to stay a couple of nights in either Brugge or Ghent.

Any recommendations where to stay either aire or site? Will need to leave 0730 one of the nights so can’t be somewhere that locks you in till 8am.

Which city is best for site seeing or is it worth visiting both?

Also are dogs allowed on buses?

Thanks.

Both worth a visit. I would use the aire at Brugge. Very close to the centre and come and go as you please. We have taken our dog on buses in Belgium. If you go to Ghent you probably need to register your vehicle for the LEZ just in case you stray into it. It is free of charge for registration and lasts for nearly 5 years.

Thanks, I will do that. My only concern was getting on to the aire in Brugge - it sounded like a busy place!

Aire in Brugge is a good stop as only 10min walk into town and restaurants a few minutes away.
Been there 3 times and although it’s been very busy once there are always vans moving, obviously weekends are the busiest.
Not been on the buses with our 2 pups so not sure but they are pretty laid back about dogs in Belgium and there are not many places that won’t let them in.

In Ghent we stayed at the aire by the Yacht Club.

We walked into town one day and cycled the next - really enjoyed the city.

Edit: I’ve just read it’s daytime only. I’m sure that’s the one we stayed overnight at for 2 nights.

The Aire in it centre of Brugge is very convenient. It's not cheap though.

When we were in Ghent, we stayed at the campsite at the sports area out to the west of the centre. There's a free shuttle bus.

Easy 10 minute walk from the aire against 41 minutes from the campsite, have always stayed at the aire and I think we paid €18 in December and it goes up to €23 including EHU in April.
If you blag one of the new pitches up the end they are a very good size.

Tried to book Memling but can only get grass pitches. Really wouldn’t want to be stuck as need to leave 7am to get 10:30am tunnel 😂

Youll not get stuck. Its as flat as a pancake and very free draining.

Been there in some Very wet weather and icy cold with no probs.

I think you will be fine, plus I’m sure some of the grass pitches have the grating, there again I could be getting mixed up with a different site.

See you are sorted but we often use the aire in Beernam by the sailing club and cycle in for the day.Only 6 or so places but space along the road if you get stuck

Thanks. We did consider this as it looks nice but my husband has a catheter in at the moment and hasn’t tried the bike since (on the list of things to do). We also need to try dog running alongside bikes.

We often choose a site/aire near to the Railway and use that to travel into the Belgian cities..... it's cheaper than moving around in the van to be honest. ...... if you stayed at Memling say..... you can get the Train to Ghent ..... https://www.thetrainline.com/en/train-times/bruges-brugge-to-ghent
That’s a good idea as we are there for longer than we need to be - thanks.

I have stopped there twice , but the last time was 2019 and have seen they have no overnight parking signs now.
