    Hi

WD40 is a crap lubricant, it washes out old oil and eventually leaves no lubricant.. any decent light mineral oil such as 3 in 1 will be fine.. also available in spray cans.

One of the reasons WD40 is not recommended for use on habitation fixtures is that it can damage plastic/nylon/rubber parts.
I use Halfords rubber and nylon lubricant (and the French equvalent: Auto Practic Lubrifiant Silicone).
I have had no problems with these, and they can be used on the rubber seals and surrounds of the windows and doors of vehicles to prevent them sticking and to prevent deterioration.
