Since 2018. After 40 years with a caravan
Thinking of France, Belgium and Netherlands. Not been to Europe before with the van. What do we really need to know and where is best to go in the Netherlands?
All ideas greatly appreciated.
Cheers

Big question. You need all the legal stuff like licences, V5, yellow vests.etc.

Look at the Govt site for travelling abroad. https://www.gov.uk/driving-abroad

Search the Continental Touring forums on this site. Everything you need to know in there.

A few don'ts.
1. Don't bite off too much to begin with. Work out where you want to be first day/night and head there and stop. 150/200 Km is more than enough first day IMHO.
2. In France learn that the town/village sign with a red border means 50Kph. The sign with a diagonal line is the end of the speed restricted area.
3. You refer to 'we'. Hopefully that means two people who can drive. You need someone in the left seat you can trust at junctions and roundabouts. Also someone to gently remind you to drive on the right whenever you turn onto a single carriageway road.
4. Don't panic. If in doubt, pull over to gather your thoughts.
One big Do.... Enjoy.

Another don’t-don’t be tempted to travel too far in one day. You are not on a driving holiday and places you don’t get to will still be there next time. We have been away for 5 weeks and hardly used a tank full of fuel. We have seen new to us villages and visited lots of restaurants and markets not seen before- we have been coming to France for 30+ years and still so much to explore.

Allow plenty of time, take plenty of cash..avoid school holidays, Aires and municipal sites are good value...Have fun..it's totally different to using a MH in the UK...if someone parks a metre away don't go and rant...they are just being friendly and a little insecure...🥳🇪🇦

First time we went abroad I drove us straight to Benidorm 👌 once you get across the channel there are no borders so just go where you fancy 👍😎

I'm glad others have said stay away from Holland as that is what I would have said but thought a lot would disagree so left it.
Nice folks and love Amsterdam but for motorhoming it's not the best, on a first trip you couldn't do better than stay in France.
More than enough to be going on with there.

According to my sat nav this seems to be the case in Spain now. Not seen it written anywhere though.
