In a Ducato 3lt, can you help identify what this cable might be ... and if it should be connected? (1 Viewer)

Hi all,

20 mins into a journey today we got a terrible bad eggs smell at the front of the 'van (2015 Adria on a ducato 3lt Alko chassis). It went when we stopped and returned when we drove. The last time I smelt this was on a ford escort 25 yrs ago, where the alternator's regulator had failed and I was merrily boiling the car battery.

So, I've been looking at the battery compartment, and I found two disconnected cables (see Red box on the right).

These may not be related to the bad smell, but can you help identify them for me please?

I think they belong behind the plastic panel in the step into the cab. Don’t know what they are though but you might see behind the panel

No idea about the cables but the check the voltage on all the batteries to see if any are too high!

I would also check to see the voltage going into them all with the engine running or solar or EHU!

Very dangerous explosive gas from boiling batteries! Are the hab batteries under the seats? Have you got a B2B charger which could be faulty?

Fiat will put standard looms into all variants of the X250 to cover all eventualities so there are always some connectors left over,or the convertor disconnect ones that are not required.

I'd be checking the battery for the source of the smell, was it warm to touch?
