I have tried a search but get a bit bogged down in lots of threads!!! , so sorry to ask a question that must have been asked a thousand times,

Simply can anyone advise me on the best aerial for freeview and do you need a booster for it.

I am considering the Avtex Tv as this seems to be well received but what is the best aerial?

I would appreciate any advice

Ideal is a directional wide band antenna, preferably with a preamp in line

After looking at the beam patterns and gain of various options including the rather expensive Status offerings, I ended up with an antenna and amp from fleabay for £35.00.
It is directional, has flip over to accommodate both horizontal and vertical transmitters , and had an 18dB pre-amp built in ( 12v feed goes to it via the coax and is fed from the supplied PSU )

It has been rare indeed to find a place that we could not get pretty decent results using that set up.

That was on our old van.

The new van came with a posh, rather expensive looking bit of kit which, quite frankly, could not hold a candle to the old one !!
