As a matter of interest to funsters who are with nationwide/ UK breakdown I have just been on the phone to UK breakdown to ask if we can carry on with them when this year policy ends and have been told once anyone's policy runs out that's it UK Insurance are not doing travel insurance anymore

Was in the process of doing application for Nationwide Extra bank to get the Breakdown, travel and phone insurance. Do you mean they are not doing EU Motorhome breakdown insurance OR not doing medical/travel insurance.

My bank Lloyds does but it ends at 65.

Lloyds Travel insurance covers you up until 80, but their breakdown is UK only.

Have you not read the few previous posts..? They are doing the same as they’ve always done, they are just changing the supplier for the service that they provide…

Just be aware that they “may” remove your half shaft (prop shaft), tow you to somewhere and then hold you to ransom until they have been paid before they will either refit it or leave it on the floor. This is a well known practice in the industry if they themselves are a cowboy company or they don’t trust you (or 3rd party) to pay up.

They are still doing mobile phone & breakdown insurance as usual but are changing travel insurance companies from UK insurance to Aviva that is the top & tail of it So because there seems to be a misunderstanding all they are doing is changing from one company to another for travel insurance the rest is the same

Have you any experience of the Upgrades - e.g. what is the likely cost of an upgrade, to extend cover from the standard max. 31 days to say 90 or 120 days?

Caravan Guard provide European breakdown cover for up to 9 months abroad! That is miles better than anybody else. Having just bought .. erm .. a more mature MH (2007 LHD Hobby T500) to compliment the maturity of its owner (!) I plan to go with them. I am impressed with their specialist knowledge (They ask the right questions!) and the FAQ section on their website makes it clear that they will insure MHs up to 25 years old and older for those who have existing policies with them. Equally they will insure drivers into their 80 who have an existing policy. Their FAQ also identified that I could shave another £50 off their quote by fitting TPS.
They are not the cheapest but they seem to believe in service and their call queue was the shortest I encountered.

We have just taken a new travel policy out with uk insurance so please get facts right they are not the supplier for nationwide in the future

Yes you are right but we are in that.

If you are a member of the camping and caravan club and inform RAC they waver hieght and weight restristions but for europe you also have to have europe cover which is a different department.
It works for us as we have several vehicles and its one policy where as LV we would need to cover any specific vehicle

Hi Chas ,
I always used RAC when I used to go before Brexit , used them twice , both times brilliant , used them through C&cc arrival system , both times no roadside repair as it seems over there its lift up piggie back style , back to garage & repair , both times good liason with english speaking RAC contact and kept informed along the way , s I dont speak a lot of French , so they explained on my behalf . Personally cant fault them.

With LV breakdown cover you can have 2 named vehicles for European cover. This is what we have plus personal cover, which covers and vehicle me or Hubby are travelling in.

Thats helpfull thanks, We do pay about £290 for uk cover so covers us as a person not a specific car\van all singing and danceing that covers Carole as well and then the anual £180 europe cover. we are cutting back now so will be looking at different options

It was never UK breakdown. If you have a Nationwide account then.....

1. Breakdown cover is provided by AA (used to be RAC I think but that was a while ago)
2. Travel insurance is currently provided by UK insurance but will change to Aviva on May 1st.
3. There is mobile phone insurance but I am not sure who provides that.
