Hi everyone :)

Our MH is on a 2011 Fiat Ducato. We had a problem a little while back where, after we started the engine, the revs would increase and then the battery light came on in red. We took it to the dealers and they diagnosed knackered hab batteries and a faulty alternator. As a solution, they suggested an upgrade to Lithium and a new alternator. We had both done. Picked it up a few days later, drove home and everything was fine. We haven't been out in it since.

Today, after deciding to go away for a few days, we started the engine to check everything still works as it should. The engine fired up straight away, ticked over for a minute or so, then the revs went up to about 1,200, battery light came on and engine symbol came on. Switched off and on again. revs sat at around 800 but the dash is lit up like a Christmas tree, including the bit that shows the mileage. If we rev the engine very slightly, all the lights go out apart from two that remain on but dimmed. Let go on the revs and all the lights are back on!!

We put the cab battery on charge and it went up to 13.8v but the he control panel inside shows less than 50% (I know these are never precise but it's never shown that low before).

We're going to go back to the dealer tomorrow but just wondered if anyone has a clue what's going on, please.

Looks like we won't be going away......again!!

I’d be looking at finding a wee local garage as the dealer will be charging dealer prices and it seems they aren’t sure what’s wrong so will just keep replacing bits until fixed
Electrical gremlins can be a pain
Good luck

Hope all is sorted now and you have lots of happy trouble free times enjoying your MH.
( find someone who knows what they are doing to look after it in future)

Yeah, thanks for that. It's a huge Benimar dealer who've been in business for many years. Not really sure how to pick anyone more suited, particularly in France

We had to go back to them, as the problem only occurred after they'd done the upgrade to lithium, alternator etc.

OMG, our MH is ready to pick up!! That was a quick exchange/repair. Didn't think they'd even be open today, let alone doing repairs! Let's see what happens on the way home :ROFLMAO:

Obviously size doesn't equal quality .
Keep an ear open locally & maybe someone on here can suggest a local independent.

There are only 3 dealers anywhere near to us. We go to the closest. The second closest won't help us because they're not a Benimar dealer. The third one is 1h 40 mins away.

They don't have to be a benimar dealer to do work on the base vehicle a local independent garage will often be quicker cheaper and as good or better.
All later diesels cars or vans are very similar
The main difference is the diagnosis equipment, although many independent garages have multi vehicles diagnostics
Hope you don't need either till the next service is due !! (Definitely a job for a trustworthy independent)

Well, we picked up the MH and the journey home was uneventful (apart from visiting the weighbridge and being pleasantly surprised). Can this possibly be the end of our run of bad luck? Felt like we've been here so many times but it has to be over soon....right?? xx
