Just spent a couple of nights at this site, it's actually near the village of Staveley and we had stayed before.
On turning of the main road we were stopped by a Police Officer and asked had we been following the news. No. Were we pre-booked, seasonal or just driving in. We were pre-booked.
He carefully explained that there was an on-going incident and though he couldn't divulge details he would allow us to proceed down the lane to the site, we should not stop and we would see a lot of officers.
On getting to the site the gate was closed and the warden walked out, he was surprised to see us as they had been in lockdown for 24 hours. Couldn't get a pitch immediately as nobody had been permitted to leave.
After a couple of hours the police opened the site up and we got a pitch.
It transpired that a body, or body parts had been discovered in woodland very close to the site, someone has been arrested.
When we left today, almost 48 hours later there was an even heavier police presence, mobile forensics lab, the works, and our registration was taken before joing the main road. On arrival we had to sign a police form before being allowed to proceed.
A most unusual, and unnerving, experience.
The club had emailed to alert us but we were on the road by the time it was sent so didn't know anything about this.
