We had one more night away after a trip to Devon so we thought we would make the most of it and stop off at Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk, not far from home.
We have been to Bury loads of times but never noticed the 5 motorhome parking bays at the entrance to one of the council car parks.
This is just what you expect it to be - a car park, and a not particularly tidy one either. The big advantage of this stop is it is only a 10 minute stroll into the very attractive and historic town centre where you will find loads of shops and eateries. Tight gits (yes, like me) will probably like the Wetherspoon's Corn Exchange pub, impressive building and impressive (cheap) prices.
Even nearer than town and just round the corner is the beautiful Abbey and Abbey Gardens.
You have to pay to park up during the day at this car park - £2.30 for all day, but its free to park overnight. Although there were a some people leaving the car park after a night out we had a peaceful night and will certainly stop here again.
We were pleased to see a couple of foreign vans parked up here when we woke this morning, word had obviously got round.
The motorhome spaces are plenty wide enough but only about 7 metres long (our van is 7.5 metres) so be prepared to overhang front or back. We didn't see any parking attendants that might have caused a fuss about this though.
Photo taken with my phone so poor quality but you get the idea.
