Hi everyone we are off to Santander sailing from Portsmouth on the Pont Aven on Tuesday 7 May at 17:15hrs any other Funsters on that sailing? We would like any hints or tips as we have never done this sailing before. The plan is when we get to Santander to do a bit of northern Spain then go to Portugal. Have read all the info here about the toll roads and am completely confused (a normal state for me) up to date info would be good. Then go across to Valencia along the coast to France through France to Calais and home around the early weeks of June. So any tips hints, do and don't dos or advice would be very welcome.

Enjoy :) having done a similar trip in the past you are covering a lot if ground in a short time. If it is just to get a feel of where you like ok but just go with the flow and if you dont do it all then there is always another time :)

Just entered Portugal in last couple of days. On entry to toll roads you may be directed to an automatic machine for foreigners where you put your credit card in and your reg number and then every time you cross the "toll point" it will charge your card. If as happened to us your card is not accepted or you would prefer just call in at a petrol station on the toll road and buy a prepaid foreigners toll card for 20e which you register your reg no by SMS and then the toll amounts are deducted from this balance every time you pass a toll point. Apparently they SMS you when the balance is used so you can buy another card. Only worry for us is w are 4500kg and look like a lorry so they may be charging us class 4 instead of class 2 camping car! We won't know till I can look at receipts on Internet . We only tend to use toll roads if really necessary
