Been at it 18 month
Hi all we’re currently in Portugal for some winter sun and noticed lots of vans on long stay pitches with air conditioning units on top.
Q as I understand it A/C won’t run on 12v so if touring in summer do you have to request a pitch for A/C and have electricity metered.

Any aircon unit worth having only runs on mains power unless you've got lots, and I mean LOTS, of leisure battery power. So you'll always need a pitch with EHU and preferably at least 10 amps as most a/c units are 2kw at least.
We found we never used ours so replaced it with a Maxxair ventilation unit; okay it's not true aircon but creates a good breeze, is quiet and runs on 12v. Used almost daily.

We have a Dometic 2200 A/C it will start and run on a 6 amp supply if nothing else is being used at the same time. Qw can run hours from our 700 watts of solar 2 x 100 Lithium and a Victron 12/2000/80 inverter charge, with this set up the trick is not to try and turn the van into a fridge.
