First Steps

So, what is the Journal?

Your own private diary of your motorhome trips — one tidy home for everything worth remembering.

Where you stayed

Campsites, aires and stopovers, with photos and notes.

🎡

What you did

Places you visited, meals out, people you met.

🚐

Your journeys

The drives between stops, mile by mile.

Your fuel

Fill-ups logged, so costs never creep up on you.

There’s also the Community Map: a shared map of campsites and stopovers added by you and thousands of fellow Funsters, with honest reviews to help everyone find the good spots.

The Journal lives at motorhomefun.co.uk/journal

It’s included free with your MotorhomeFun membership, and your journal is private to you unless you choose to share it.

Open the Journal

On Your Phone

Make it feel like a real app

No app store, nothing to download. In about ten seconds you can put the Journal on your home screen, where it opens with a single tap;  just like any other app.

🍎

iPhone & iPad

⚠️ Use Safari (the built-in browser) — this won’t work in Chrome on an iPhone or iPad.
1Open the Travel Journal in Safari.
2Tap the Share button — the square with an arrow pointing up ▲ (bottom of the screen on an iPhone, top on an iPad).
3Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen.
4Tap Add in the top-right corner.
5Done! Tap the MotorhomeFun icon on your home screen to open it — just like any other app.
🤖

Android

Use Chrome — the browser most Android phones use by default.
1Open the Travel Journal in Chrome.
2Tap the menu — the three dots ⋮ in the top-right corner.
3Tap Add to Home screen (it may say Install app).
4Tap Add (or Install) to confirm.
5Done! Tap the MotorhomeFun icon on your home screen to open it — just like any other app.
🔑

Signing in

The Journal is for MotorhomeFun members. The first time you visit, create your account using the same email address and password you use for the forum. After that, it’s just:

1Open the app.
2Type the email address you use for the MotorhomeFun forum.
3Type your password.
4Tap Sign in.

Getting Around

Four buttons, that’s all

Everything lives behind four buttons along the bottom of the screen. Wherever you wander, you’re one tap from home:

Tours

Your home page and all your trips.

🗺️

Community

The shared Community Map of sites.

📄

Docs

Handy documents, with expiry reminders for the important ones.

⚙️

Account

Your settings — and your travel Stats.

🏠

Your home page

You land on Tours whenever you open the app: a friendly greeting, three boxes with your running totals — Tours, Nights and Miles — then a search box and your list of tours.

⛽ Quick fill-up: Spot the little fuel pump in the top-right corner? Tap it any time to log a fill-up in seconds — details in Logging your fuel.

On Tour

Your first Tour

A Tour is one trip, and everything from that trip lives inside it: every campsite, every drive, every diary entry. Your very first tour is already made for you — rename it and change its photo to anything you like. “Summer in Scotland”, “Our trip to Germany”… it’s your story.

Starting a new Tour

1On the home page, tap the round + button in the bottom-right corner (or Start your first Tour).
2Give it a name — “Cornwall, June 2026” works nicely.
3Add a description if you like (optional).
4Add start and end dates if you know them (optional).
5Tap Save. Your new Tour appears on the home page — tap it to open it.

💰 Tour costs: Five boxes at the top of each tour quietly total what the trip is costing you. Rather not know? You can switch them off and holiday in blissful ignorance.

On Tour

Adding a campsite or stopover

Pitched up, kettle on? Open the Tour you’re on and add tonight’s stop — it takes a minute or two.

Adding tonight’s stop

1Find the Campsites and Stopovers section and tap Add Campsite.
2Choose the type of site — Aire, Caravan & Motorhome Club site, and so on. The long list folds away to your choice; tap Change if you picked the wrong one.
3Give the site a name.
4Fill in your arrival and departure dates.
5Type the cost per night — or tap the green Free button if there was no charge.
6Add the address or postcode so it shows on the map.
7Tick the facilities the site has — electric, fresh water, toilets and so on.
8Tap Save.
📷

Adding photos

Photos are what make your journal come alive.

1Open a campsite (or any entry) you’ve saved.
2Tap Add photo.
3Take a photo, or pick one from your phone.
4It uploads and appears on the entry.

Later on, tap any photo to open the full-screen gallery, then swipe left and right to flick through the lot.

On Tour

More than campsites

A trip is more than where you parked. Inside every Tour there are places for the rest of it:

🚐

Travel days

Record a drive: where from, where to, how many miles.

📔

Diary

Write about your day — private to you.

🎡

Attractions

The places you visited.

🍴

Food & drink

Pubs and meals out worth remembering.

👋

People

Folk you met along the way.

They all work the same way: open your Tour, find the section, tap its Add button, fill in the details and tap Save. Everything files itself by date, so your Tour reads like a story from start to finish.

👀 Looking back: Tap any saved entry and you get a tidy card of the details, not a form full of boxes. Spotted something to change? Tap Edit.

On Tour

Logging your fuel

A few seconds at the pump saves head-scratching later — and your Stats do all the sums.

At the pump

1On the home page, tap the fuel pump icon in the top-right corner.
2Enter the date, the cost, the litres and your mileage.
3Tap Save — the numbers flow straight into your Stats.

💷 Filling up abroad: Tap the little calculator icon, pop in today’s exchange rate and what you paid, and the Journal turns it into British pounds for you.

Finding Places

One map, thousands of good spots

Tap Community at the bottom of the screen and up comes a map covered in coloured pins — campsites and stopovers added by Funsters just like you. Drag with one finger to move about; pinch with two to zoom.

Plenty of Funsters love a free stopover. To see only the free spots:

2A list of navigation apps appears; Google Maps, Apple Maps, Waze, CoPilot, TomTom, Sygic Truck and Here WeGo.
3Tap the one you use and it opens straight into directions to the site.

💡 No drama: If you tap an app you don’t have installed, nothing happens at all — just go back and pick the one you do.

Spotted somewhere you plan to visit? Open the site, tap Add to my tour and choose which Tour. It’s added as a planned stop — your own private copy to edit as you like.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Leave a review

Open a site, tap Write a review, give it stars and a few honest words, then tap Post review. Future Funsters will thank you.

Back Home

When the wheels stop turning

The tour ends; the journal doesn’t. Here’s what all that recording was for.

Share your Tour

Open the Tour and tap Share at the top. Choose Create a link for a read-only web link to send to family and friends, or PDF for a booklet of the whole trip; a lovely keepsake. Your private diary stays private either way.

Your stats

Open Account and tap Stats to watch the numbers build themselves; tours, nights away, miles driven, fuel costs and more. No adding up required.

Your account

Tap Account to update your name and email, back up your data, find your Stats, and open your Big Master Map — everywhere you’ve ever stayed, across every tour, on one glorious map.

Good to Know

Handy tips

Four small things that make the Journal feel effortless.

📶

It works offline

No signal at the back of beyond? Carry on. Notes and photos save on your phone and sync when you’re back online.

🔄

Seeing an old version?

After an update, close and reopen the app, or pull down to refresh. If a “tap to refresh” message pops up, tap it.

💾

Nothing is lost

Editing or deleting one entry never touches the rest of your Tour — and your journal stays safe even if the van sleeps all winter.

🧘

Take your time

Everything saves as you go and there’s no wrong way to use it. Your journal, your rules.

You’re all set

Happy travels — and happy journalling!

Your Journal is ready whenever you are, free with your MotorhomeFun subscription. And if you ever get stuck, just ask on the forum — Funsters are a friendly bunch.
