The Best Motorhome Show and Why You should Go

Whether you’re a seasoned motorhomer or just dipping your toe into the world of motorhomes, a visit to a Motorhome Show is a must. Packed with inspiration, advice, and entertainment, these shows offer something for everyone; from excited newbies looking for their first motorhome, to long-time enthusiasts, looking for the latest gadgets or meeting with friends.

But what exactly are motorhome shows? What goes on behind the exhibition hall doors and within those bustling display fields? And why should you make time to attend one?

What Is a Motorhome Show?

A motorhome show is essentially a gathering of all things motorhome-related. (though sometimes not even remotely related) Held at various locations across the UK and Europe, these events bring together manufacturers, dealers, accessory suppliers, campsite owners, and thousands of enthusiasts under one (often very large) roof – or, in many cases, out in a field.

If you’ve ever dreamed of owning a motorhome or upgrading your current one, a motorhome show can the perfect place to start. They are fantastic places to do your research because they are so many motorhomes to see, you can climb in out and all over hundreds of vans, all with slightly differing layouts.

Indoor or Outdoor

Indoor and outdoor motorhome shows each offer unique experiences, catering to different types of visitors. Indoor shows, typically held in large venues like the NEC in Birmingham, provide a clean, comfortable, and weather-proof environment. They are often used by major manufacturers to showcase their latest models, concepts, and innovations, with factory representatives on hand to answer technical questions. The setting is polished and professional, with well-lit displays, detailed brochures, and a packed schedule of talks and demonstrations. It's ideal for those wanting to see the newest designs and technologies in a controlled, high-end environment—though it can feel more commercial and there’s usually an entry fee and parking cost.

In contrast, outdoor motorhome shows have a more relaxed, sociable feel. Set in open-air venues like showgrounds, they allow visitors to stay on-site in their own vans, often making a weekend of it with live music, food stalls, and evening entertainment. These shows are dominated by dealers rather than manufacturers, offering a huge selection of both new and second-hand motorhomes to browse and buy. You’ll often find some great show deals and a wider range of budgets catered for. While outdoor shows can feel more fun and immersive, they’re naturally weather-dependent and facilities vary. In essence, indoor shows are where you’ll see what’s new and next, while outdoor shows are the place to find what’s available now!

It's not just Motorhomes at a motorhome show

Most motorhome shows are divided into key areas, each catering to different aspects of the motorhome lifestyle:

Accessories Area – A dedicated space where traders sell everything from essential camping gear and motorhome upgrades to extras like solar panels, satellite systems, batteries, and telescopic cleaning brushes, etc.  Additionally, some exhibitors offer products not specifically related to motorhomes, such as garden furniture and even speciality gin.

Motorhome Sales Area – This might be dealers selling used motorhomes or manufactures showing off their latest models.

Information & Seminar Area – Now a staple at many shows, this area features expert-led seminars, Q&A sessions, and presentations from industry pros and popular YouTubers. Topics range from choosing the right motorhome to off-grid travel tips and European touring advice. While many talks offer great value, some can turn out to be little more than glorified sales pitches — so stay sharp!

With these key areas, motorhome shows provide a well-rounded experience for both newcomers and seasoned enthusiasts.

Entertainment

Many people attend motorhome shows for the social side of the event. While indoor shows tend to be strictly business – outdoor shows typically have entertaining themes, such as ‘The Sixties” Rock n Roll and Country & Western etc. Most often these events have thousands of overnight campers, so there are always numerous private parties under awnings as well as rally club areas.

Popular with those who don't make it to Düsseldorf but still want a preview of next year's models. In the comments, it was mentioned that it was easily the best indoor show, though it was often compared unfavourably to Düsseldorf, especially regarding overnight parking and food options. (As an aside.. Strangely, the February NCC show was one of the least popular among our members.). NCC Shows at the NEC

Voted the best end-of-season get-together. Comments included: "a lovely showground," "great variety of stands," "excellent entertainment," and "a perfect send-off to the summer touring season." Warner's Shows

Praised more for its idyllic location and easy strolls into town than the show itself, but clearly a firm favourite among our members. Appletree Exhibitions
