I have had an on and off issue with my rear camera not coming on, the guidelines come up but no picture and the flip up on the rear does not operate. I have on a couple of occasions pressed the front of the monitor and it comes on suggesting a bad connection. Well today it wont work at all. I pulled the unit and you can see from the attached picture that I have what appears to be a broken red signal type lead wjich is attached to the camera coax. I also have another connector which is loose but this was wrapped with tape. Anyone out there have a clue about the red lead and also the other bluish one? Anyone have a proper wiring diagram as well?

I have found a wiring diagram but it is no different to that on the chassis of the Zenec so unless you have something better dont worry too much.

Crossed in the post!! Thanks I found the same at the bottom of a pile of manuals, but it is only a repeat of the chassis as I have said. Looking closer, and blowing a fuse in the process, I can see that the red signal wire is on the camera tail rather than the Zenec loom tail so it may be camera specific. Hopefully some one will recognise it. I have a N+B Flair and it has a flip up rear camera.

The red lead is to feed power to the camera, in your case not used. Surprised in an N&B they have used such a cheap cable for the video.
I would try putting 12v on the camera trigger input that would tell you if its a bad connection on the trigger input.

Thanks Lenny which would be the trigger input?

Not enough info in your diagram but most manufactures use purple/white for reverse trigger. Check your setting first as most units you can choose +12 or Ground for the trigger, more common to use +12 from the reversing lights.

The problem is that at the last warranty visit I had them fit an override switch so I could watch the toad I've never hitched. Does that colour your advice?
Just got back from a superb fish restaurant in Peniche, Portugal, so that's the delay.

Switching that switch should do the same as I suggested.
Since I fitted 4 cameras 3 of them switched via switches occasionally my picture locks up and I have to reboot the stereo (well it is a windows OS).

The switch does not trigger the camera either. The camera is in a pop out flap, and that does not operate and even if I flip it open manually the camera is not on and no image.

Sounds like you have lost the trigger feed.
Probably have to start at the camera/ flap and follow the wiring back. Could be an inline fuse. All my cameras died recently traced it to an inline fuse I had fitted had partly unscrewed due to vibration.

Thanks Lenny, I am still wondering about the blue lead in my picture, it had black tape around it like all the other connectors from the radio head I assume to stop them disconnecting. Interestingly the tape looked like a male connector was there, ie it was not taped to insulate, but I cannot find a loose male end. I will start looking, have to get the bikes out to get at the access panel for the camera!

Not familiar with your head unit but on all the ones I've had and there's been a few, the blue wire is usually the signal wire to an electric aerial.

Electronic gremlins can be so frustrating, as Lenny recommended, start from the camera checking to see if you have a 12v feed at this point.

I have found this black widget, which has the reversing lead and a blue lead that runs down the camera conduit. There is also a green lead that I think goes to the new switch they installed. The white wire is on the other end. I can see evidence that the white wire and the blue plus reversing wires were connected on opposite sides of a connecting block. The question is what is the black thing, and how do I test it?

My gut feeling is that it's an inline fuse holder. You could disconnect the wires from both ends and test its resistance

This is it both sides, no circuit through it so not a fuse.

It's a diode, should read high resistance one way low the other.

Bosch Alternator Diode.

Edit: probably to stop back feed to reversing lights a bit OTT a 1 amp 5 pence one would have done, I used relays to switch my input trigger.

Thanks Lenny that's what I thought and it does read resistance as you say. So will look at camera this morning. The white lead on what is marked generator end that would be from the reversing lights?

Ok got to the camera fuse their fine and 12 volts. The blue lead in pic I believe is trigger wire not sure how to test it. What would I expect here?

First of all check in setting that it is set to trigger on +12v then connecting that wire to +12 should turn the screen to camera video, if there is no output from the camera you will get a "no video input" message, shell that's what my Clarion does.

If is set to trigger on ground (unlikely) you would need to ground the wire.

I would pop the stereo out and try working back from there. In my experience most faults occur behind the head unit as the wiring is so jamed in.

Hi Lenny, thanks for your time. When I go into reverse, or switch on with the manual switch the monitor switches to camera in both cases. See pic.
But only a black image. I beginning to suspect the camera is kaput, based on 12 v being at the camera.

That guide is generated by the camera so it must be the camera.

Now if you had posted that image at the start of the thread you would have saved us and yourself a whole lot of hassle.:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
