This is a lovely drop, don't have too many though as it's 7.3%
 
We stopped over at The Talbot which is a great pub with its own brewery. It even has a camp site out the back.

That was a very nice traditional bitter and Talbot Blonde was a fairly traditional Pale Ale bordering on a what IPA used to be like when Green King was the only IPA you could get. It was annoying that whoever set up the lines put This, That and T’other the right way round for them to read not us.
 
that’s a grand bar i’d be happy to visit a few times TT landlord is close to my favourite ale now widely available even had it up in scotland this year, saturday evening went out to my local the stilton cheese inn somerby it’s my local because they do good food but as well as 3 guest beers one of their regulars is grainstore breweries ten fifty the recipe for which is the old ruddles county the brewery is housed next to oakham railway station in what was ruddles grain store hence the name, my grandad retired from ruddles in 1956 after 50 years service as a brewer though his recipe was ruddles blue a 4.2 easy drinking beer .

I do like a pint of Ten Fifty which was also the gravity of Ruddles County before it's demise. I too liked a pint of County. (y) Wasn't it 5.2 ABV years ago in line with Everards Old Original?

The story goes that when the Grainstore Brewery set up, they enticed the former Ruddles Head Brewer out of retirement, bringing with him the County recipe, now known as Ten Fifty. Is that correct Ken?

That's not one I've come across, not even when I took coach loads on brewery trips to the Ruddles Brewery at Langham, in the late 80s/early 90s

I'm sure you are aware, but another decent ale from the Grainstore Brewery is Rutland Beast. (y)

grainstore was set up by two men called davis not related to each other one tony davis was head brewer at ruddles when it was taken over his son is now MD, my grandad retired in 1956 so the blue was long superseded i do remember everards original i used to play darts at the willow thurmaston early eighties the brewery made the landlord take old original as it was then after a couple of weeks he refused to stock it ! no profit customers who normally drank 6 or 7 pints were only able to manage 2 or 3 lol,,as for the rutland beast took a couple of mates and we worked the bar started one end lots of variety cooking triple B etc we finished with the beast what a great beer could not believe that it was a mild !!!!!

I got a 4 pack of wheat beer earlier in the year for free when I bought a case of St Bernardus 12.
I don't like it. It is very citrussy (is that a word) and mildly hoppy.5% . I do like German wheat beer but this is not that.

Mind you "owt fur nowt" as they say.
 
looks like the good monks at St Bernard’s are getting all fashionable. StB12 is difficult to beat, I think they should stick to what they know

This had about as much life in it as the Prince of Darkness does now. I think it was just rebadged Robinson’s pale or something similar. Here’s what the Robinson’s marketing team have to say:

A light-golden ale that’s beautifully balanced in both bitterness and sweetness and carries subtle citrus and floral undertones. A true tribute to the Prince of Darkness, his legacy, and the region that forged him.

Which implies they know nothing.

They had loads of "stuff" in cans in the shop. Getting down with the kids.
The shop and bar is super trendy.
Needs a camper stop outside.

Not really, Bintang is the main Indonesian beer but Singaraja is a Bali produced beer and very nice. Obviously you can pay over the odds for imported anything as well as Guinness in some bars/restaurants.
