I have been asked a question by friends of ours to find out what I can.

They have a young friend coming over from Australia next month for a few months he has a acrobatic act and is working around the country at various Holiday Camps etc. He wants to buy a cheap Campervan approx £2500 and will of course will need it insuring.

Now of course the first thing I said when they asked was that the insurance would be very vert expensive and I did not think that he would get much for £2500 .

That been said there used to be a place in London where Australians etc bought and sold vans after using them to tour around the UK, does any one know if this is still the case or any other ideas, apart from forget it

I know it's a long shot but any ideas please.

I found a link that might help. It is specifically for Australians traveling in the UK by camper.
My daughter did the same thing in Australia. She bought a Campervan last year to travel around Australia.
All she did was buy a camper from the classified ads then after 5/6 months just sold the camper in the classified ads again.

I was very tempted to do this in America a few years ago, but in the end I just hired a car and drove across. I thought it might be a bit easier than going through the rigmarole of buying and selling and everything that involves.

Who knows you might find they get a bargain and make on the deal.

I can remember walking near Austrlia House in London years ago and seeing lots of VW Campers parked in the streets near by, with for sale notice in windows. Not sure if still allowed any more due to parking restrictions

Those with an Australian license can drive up to 3500kg and a max of 12 months here in UK.
I know there are a few specialist brokers for aussies / kiwis.

Lots of info on the web if they start searching...
