Citroen Relay
Hello.
I am having an issue with starting on my Relay. 2.2 HDi 2916 model.
Turning the key there is a click. Then a few seconds later another which then speed up and stop.

The results are the same if I’ve got it hooked up to another car so I don’t think it’s the battery. I Have also tried earthing the battery direct to engine and the same.

it seems to me to be a starter or solenoid issue. Have I missed something/what’s the process for replacing a starter in these. When I did myVivaro it needed bumper and rad off.
Thanks.

2916 model, wow ... Nice to see that motorhomes are 'the future' ....

Have you tried to put the battery in charge using a battery charger? Whenever I've had just a clicking noise, it's been lack of 'charge' in the battery, and trying it will eliminate one possible cause. Hooking it up to another battery might not provide enough boost ...

Haha, it's a very modern model :)

I have had it on charge overnight yes. Also, I have a booster pack which I have tried. When connected, I had a voltage of 14.5 and it was still lifeless.

Bad earth or positive connection to starter motor?

I have tried earthing thr battery direct to the chassis and engine block with no joy. Starter motor connections I haven't tried yet. Is it accessible from underneath or do things need removing.

Starter replaced last night and still no joy. Now when I turn the key, there is a fast clicking but no cranking.

Have you tried connecting power, (live and neg) direct to the starter?

That is what I would do to work out if it is the starter or the supply.

Is the clicking noise coming from the fusebox or the starter area ?

Yes, when I did it powered correctly, asin clicked into position and spun.

Have you tried a short length of wire between the main feed to the solenoid and the small terminal on the solenoid. This would rule out a fault between the ignition switch and solenoid.
