Having started doing the yearly trawl fro ferry prices ( for next January ) I was shocked to discover the cheapest option for us is now the chunnel.
DFDS and P & O ferries are now considerably higher than the chunnel.. Still far from cheap at about £150 return, it is better by more than £100 for anything else I could find

Not long enough, but a little common sense helps..........
John, we only use the "Chunnel" now, the only ripe off is the charge for the animal as on the way out of UK they do not check and on the way back they only check for "chip" and that's it for 15 quid each way. The really nice thing is the speed and less stress for your dog.

We had to change our usual plans for this year and took a couple of shorter two week trips rather than the usual month in May.
I set up a Frequent Traveller package with Eurotunnel which gives us 10 crossings at £54 each way.
Four crossings completed so far and two more booked for September leaving four more for winter and next spring.
If you make several trips a year it could be worth considering.

Richard.

We would never look at anything but tunnel, and the way things are going the ferries will end up all freight and passengers tunnel

John, when booking there is a box for pets, I think below veh type. If you have missed it and booked you can check/change your booking on line or call them.

It's on the page after you select your crossing times.

Looks like it's £17 now.

John, have you got the little dog ( bet he's not so little now ) chipped, as this needs to be done well in advance and like wise have you got vet details close to port back to UK for jabs before tunnel as they check the pet passport. I'm sure there are a few on here that will have all the details.

Hi John, DFDS don't charge on the way to France but double on the way back !
I have used DFDS out so free for dog and P & O home at £15
On Saturday I booked P & O for £54 tomorrow morning at 9:25 (plus £15 for dog) (y), had I chosen this evening I could have got over for £46 (plus £15 for dog). Motorhome at 7.9m.
Check prices this coming weekend being 1st week of school holidays :Eeek::Eeek:

Always use the Chunnel, but with Tesco vouchers of course it's a no-brainer and it's much better if you've got a dog as he/she doesn't get left in the van alone (although ours is usually okay).

Just a note of caution; try and book as soon as possible because the prices rise the closer to departure time you get. This also applies if you need to change your booking - we came back early a week ago with 3 days notice and it cost us an extra £37, there were no cheaper alternatives.

All well and good if you have a noddy car masquerading as a Motorhome Larby.. Us real men with 29ft of metal and plastic on wheels have to pay a tad more !!

DFDS for us last year was down right stupid money !
P & O, a little better and merely silly money ! LOL !!

I used the Ferry twice and both times got held out at sea. Wasn't allowed to got to van, horrible public toilets, no where to really relax.

Tunnel everytime for me since then. Stay with my vehicle in comfort :) Fast trip, worth every penny.

Been getting away since 2008
We always use the tunnel, i used it 20 yrs ago when it first opened on the freight train. We had china cups and plates and proper napkins but that didnt last long as they all seemed to go missing, funnily enough I've got a set here
Clubcard vouchers are a no brainier, booked for my trip next week and it cost me a whole £1.
I'd rather stay with my vehicle for a 1/2 hour than be up on deck on a rough crossing with everyone throwing up around me and having to brave the disgusting toilets, yes you can upgrade to club class for £15 or so but it's still the same crossing.
